Help for Garmin Drive 50 LMT

Postby deltaseb » Tue Jul 01, 2025 8:43 pm

Hello, I have a problem with my Garmin Drive 50 LMT. I accidentally formatted the internal memory, and now I no longer have the gmapprom.img file or the Foursquare file. When I try to update using Garmin Express, it tells me that my device is up to date and does not reinstall the missing files needed to use the GPS. Otherwise, everything else works correctly (language, keyboard, options). Thank you for helping me restore or recover the gmapprom.img file. The version I had for the map and Foursquare was 2022.10 and this is possible to upgrade the version 2022.10 for more recent. Thank you.

So you are able to see the contents of the .system folder ?
If you are talking about North America maps the latest is 2026.20
Make a copy of your garmindevice.xml and pop it into my [Please Register or Login to download file] so I can have a look what's going on.
Normally Garmin Express does have a "reinstall these maps" option

There are a couple of ways to do this, use an SD card card as a clone of your device and update the SD card and copy the files over manually .
Normally you would loose all your files if you formatted it ? ,we need to know all the files that have vanished . gmapbmap.img is a very important base map for example.
Did you put your garmindevice.xml in my drop folder yet

No problem I've had a look and from what I can tell, your device has updated a few of the most recent file updates gmaptz.img for instance which you will see in the .system folder with a recent date.
Unfortunately your device has lost its Lifetime map updates for some reason ,I've looked at 4 other devices in the 4VW05 serial number series and some are like yours but others still have Lifetime updates.
Did you buy this new ,have you updated the maps before ?
If you bought it New the give Garmin a call and if you have no luck with them you can do what other members do.
Lifetime Maps Terms & Conditions
If you purchase a nüMaps Lifetime subscription (sold separately) or if your Garmin product comes bundled with a nüMaps Lifetime or other lifetime map subscription, you will receive map data updates when and as such updates are made available on Garmin.com during the useful life of 1 compatible Garmin product or as long as Garmin receives map data from a third party supplier, whichever is shorter. A product’s “useful life” means the period during which the product (a) has sufficient memory capacity and other required technical capabilities to utilize current map data and (b) is capable of operating as intended without major repairs. A product will be deemed to be out of service and its useful life to be ended if no updates have been downloaded for such product for a period of 24 months or more. Unless otherwise stated, the updates you receive under the subscription will be updates to the same geographic area included with your Garmin product when originally purchased. In some instances, your Garmin product might not have sufficient memory remaining for you to load an update to the map data, in which case you will need to either (a) select reduced map data coverage for your updates, or (b) purchase separately a microSD™/SD™ card (if and as applicable to your Garmin product) and load all or a portion of the map data coverage for your updates to the card and insert the card into the microSD/SD card slot contained in your Garmin product. If neither of the measures in (a) or (b) can be used to address your product’s lack of sufficient remaining memory, then Garmin may conclude that the “useful life” of your product has expired. Garmin may terminate your nüMaps Lifetime or other lifetime map subscription at any time if you violate any of the terms of this agreement or your subscription. Your nüMaps Lifetime subscription or other lifetime map subscription may not be transferred to another person or another Garmin product.

To use the unlocked maps here you will have to Patch your device first.

I don't remember exactly, but I bought this GPS several years ago, and I had already done updates for the system and the map.

I added the Lifetime Maps Terms & Conditions to the Post above.

I got my answer — after 24 months without updates, I did the update using the SD card. Now, how can I get all the files I need to have the most up-to-date map, version 2026.20

Garmin will kill lifetime status if : " ...no updates have been downloaded for such product for a period of 24 months or more." ? Right? This is ugly!.. Something like - if you do not come at home for a 2 years - this will not be yours after this time ...

This is not new,it has been that way in N.America & Europe for a couple of decades.

Not the same in Australia.

A huge thank you to you GarminNuvi, the map is now properly installed on my GPS, but I have one last question: how do I add the Foursquare data, which is in .img format, to the GPS? Do I put the file in the .system folder, the Garmin folder, or in the map folder where the map is installed?

On device : .system/map/D4935310A.img
or
SD card : Map/D4935310A.img
