Next best from a One XL with 32mb Ram

Postby naviboy » Tue May 16, 2023 9:22 pm

Had my One and One XL with 32mb of Ram for quite a few years with good service Home and Overseas with the various maps used and updated as when they are released, with maps on a 4gb SD.

Recently noted my TT lagging behind with my positioning on the map during a planned route, and shuts down when if when it has to replan the route if I've missed a turning etc.

Whether this is the new maps needing more Ram to keep up in processing my positioning etc or something else.

What would be the next best TT to use with a greater amount of Ram used for processing the maps etc.

I can't warrant the expense of a new TT device as I may only use TT once in a month or 4.

Any suggestions

Thanks

Yes, your TT is struggling because the UK & ROI map you're using is a fully featured map and your TT only has 32MB of RAM which causes the lags and reboots.

You have a couple of choices...either use a lesser map without ALG or try a different navcore which contains a swap file.

Alternatively, you could look to buy a second hand Go x40/x50

Try this navcore 9541SE with a swap file. Maybe it is the solution for you otherwise following Fredderf advise.

But does it have a swap file?

Hi,
Back again.
Yes my NC has a swap file dated 2003 8192KB where the download is dated 2019 8192KB.
Is there any difference or need to update.

thanks

Ok,
thinking of replacing my TT One where it appears to be struggling with the current maps I have, more so the ROI & UK.
Looking at either a TT Go50/60 or TT Go 500/600. With either, could I use my current sd card with all its maps etc. If so, would this allow the system to run faster in not using the internal RAM with my positioning on the map and not lagging as the One does with its 35MB.

If the internal RAM is not used and not particularly worried about not using a smartphone especially overseas.

Any suggestions which of the 2, knowing one model has more memory than the other and used once in a Blue moon.

I’m leaning to the GO 50/60.

Thanks

Neither of those would be any good for you as they are the next generation of TT's and require a totally different approach to updating and you wouldn't be able to use your SD card.

The easiest and cheapest thing to do would be to use a different UK & ROI (1105.11757) map that doesn't include Advanced Lane Guidance which is the bit that saps all of your RAM.

If you really need to have ALG and want another device, then look for: Go 540/740/940 or Go 550/750/950 but even these use a different style of SD card.

Today,
I installed a different map, still UK+ROI but 1105_11752.

Tried several of my favourite destinations and appears to be ok with no restarts from it shuts down previously when replanning a new route.

As said earlier, of all the previous maps over the years home or overseas never had an issue.

So maybe the last map was too much or glitch for a TT One XL with its 35MB memory.

Thanks for your help guys

To be honest I would go back to navcore 9.510 for 32mb devices, it will run a lot smoother than the 9.541.
You need to check which GPS chip is in it, you may be able to provide it with a wnro flash to get the clock working again.
Information should be here somewhere on the forum when it can and how to act.

As a UK card I would take the latest new one, 1110_11859.
If you don't use cspeech then skip the cspeech files, although I'm in favor of it as it gives you just a little more information.

You use a 4GB SDHC card, your bootloader must then be higher than or equal to 5.5028.
If you use 5.5028 or higher, you can use up to 32GB SDHC, which I still do with my old Rider V2, which is also behind on winding roads when I quickly drive a road with many windings in succession.
The processor just can't keep up with calculating the planned route ahead.
Just like that of an old One, but it still runs on the latest maps of all of Europe and uses cspeech, a computer voice, so come and get it.
If you use the device so little then install TomTom Go on your smartphone, which still costs me € 20 per year, you can also use it for free with no more than 75KM per month if I remember correctly.

It cannot be compared to the GO Discovery 7 Inch which I have been using in the car for a year, but it will also not be able to keep up with the pace in the future.
