Hi, sorry if I ask stupid question. What is the use of the Map3D.img file, .db, .ASR-SRX and .G2X file for, and how am I going to use it. I normally use only the .img for the mag. Any kind advice ? Thank you....John

My apologies for reviving a thread that is several months old. I've been reading many of the threads here, and it seems there is more than one way to update the Kenwood DNX6140 as well, but it also seems that not all files are necessary?

Can someone tell me which of the whole collection of files is really necessary for the Kenwood? It appears only the locked files, but then there are lots of 3D, ASR-SRX, G2X and other files that I haven't found a tutorial about yet.

Kenwood devices are a little bit special and not in all points the same like Garmin units. The most easiest and secure way to update your device is to look, which files are there and then try to find a working update, e.g. if you have no gmap3d.img you needn't this file, if you have an *.jcv, you must try which .jcv is working for you.

Got it. I'll hook the laptop up to the unit and do a like-for-like replacement (after backing up the original files, of course). I don't have voice recognition, 3D buildings or anything fancy in the Kenwood unit - the graphics are actually quite cartoonish, even "cheesy" for such an expensive stereo/nav.

I'm assuming everything I need will be in the one mapsource.rar?

It's my impression from other threads here that the Kenwood units will not work with the unlocked files?

Wanted to update that the Kenwood unit works just fine with the unlocked file(s).
