Update issue with TTActivator

Postby ADM62440 » Sun Jan 25, 2026 9:35 am

Bonjour,
Merci d'avance.
Alain

Hello,

I acquired an old TomTom Start 20 GPS (a Nav3 type) which had a 2012 map. I used TTActivator to replace the map with a v1160 France map whose meta code is correctly listed in the meta file.
Everything seems to go well (installation of the new map, installation of the meta file, and application of the standard patch), but at the end, upon restarting the GPS, it starts looping. When I select the new map to install it, the GPS eventually restarts and then returns to the same map selection, and so on.
The GPS has therefore become unusable, as the old map has been removed to make room for the new one. It's impossible to reactivate the old map with TomTom MyDrive Connect.
Does anyone have any advice on how to fix this problem?

Thanks in advance.
Alain

The same story

Read when the GPS restarts, not when the GPS is re-listened to!

I wouldn't know of any other solution than using TTactivator

Problem updating with TTActivator

Postby ADM62440 » Sun Jan 25, 2026 4:51 pm

Hello,

I acquired an old TomTom Start 20 GPS (Nav3 type) with a 2012 map. I used TTActivator to replace it with a France v1160 map, the meta code of which is correctly entered in the meta file.
Everything seems to go smoothly (installation of the new map, installation of the meta file, and application of the standard patch), but upon restarting the GPS, it starts restarting in a loop. When I select the new map to install it, the GPS restarts and then returns to selecting the same map, and so on.
The GPS has therefore become unusable, as the old map has been deleted to make room for the new one. It is impossible to reactivate the old map with TomTom MyDrive Connect.
Do you have a solution to this problem?

Thank you in advance.

MyDrive Connect is not part of the equation if you want to install unofficial/patched navcores. Use TTActivator as pe1agp suggested.
In my experience, having a TT stuck in reboot loops means lack of memory, at least on NAV2 devices. Dunno if it's something like this on a NAV3

If the device is still accessible via MyDrive, a system restore might work.
Connect the TomTom, start MyDrive, and then start the TomTom, but hold the power button until a black screen with all the information appears.

I'm not sure if it was pressing the power button two or three times in quick succession.
Try both.

Bonjour,

Hello,
thank you pe1agp for your message.
To start the restore after the reset is 3 quick presses on the switch.
TomTom MyDrive Connect has automatically deleted the new France 11.60
map As a result, the gps no longer runs in a loop but displays Map Not Found.
TomTom My Drive connect shows me in the content display the version of the old card but no possibility to reinstall it.

Anyone correct me if I am wrong, but first you have to patch navcore with TTactivator, then install map, then activate the map, all with ttactivator.
At least with nav1 it is like this .

In that case try TTactivator once more, don't connect or run Mydrive at the same time.

@Skinnie. yes you're right.

Bonjour,

Hello,
pe1agp, after removing TomTom MyDrive Connect from my PC, I tried again with TTActivator, and the problem persists: the GPS is stuck in a loop. I click on the France map selection, and then the GPS restarts and returns to the France map selection. However, I followed the procedure correctly and received success messages at each step.

It's not a problem with available memory, a possibility suggested by another member, because this France map is just under 1 GB with 4 GB of internal memory. So I have more than 2 GB available.

I've used TTActivator without any problems on older TomTom GPS devices (those managed by TomTom Home), but with two Nav 3-type GPS units, it fails every time.

In the past, I've been able to replace maps on Nav3 models a few times without any problems.
I don't quite understand why it's not working for you either. I think there must be something interfering with TTactivator.

Is it possible that MyDrive is running in the background?
MyDrive should definitely not be active while using TTactivator.
I'd love to give it a try, but unfortunately, you don't live around the corner.

Also are you sure you are selecting the correct 1160 map for your nav 3?

pe1agp I removed TomTom MyDrive Connect from my PC to avoid any interference between it and TTActivator.
skinnie I selected the France 1160 map offered by TTActivator for Nav3/Nav4. And for this map, the metacode is indeed available in the meta file.

The only thing I can recommend right now is to try it on another computer

Thanks pe1agp for this discussion.

I hadn't thought of switching PCs.

So I used my second PC after removing the TomTom MyDrive Connect application from it.
With this PC connected to the GPS, I started the process from scratch, first removing the France 1160 map and the patch.

I reinstalled the France v11.60 map, the meta file, and then the patch.
Again, everything seems to go well, but when you restart the GPS, it keeps looping back to selecting the France 1160 map, restarting the GPS, and then returning to the map selection screen...
