My nuvi 760 has firmware version 4.70. which limits me to a maximum map size of 2GB. I understand I can upgrade to version 5.40, which would increase the maximum map size to 4GB.

1. Are there any other advantages to making the upgrade?
2. Are there any disadvantages to making the upgrade, like loss of functions or new difficulties in updating maps?
3. If I must use the Garmin Express program to perform the upgrade, does that program send my device serial number number and current map version to Garmin?
4. Is there any way to save version 4.70 before I upgrade so I can revert to it later if I have problems with 5.40?

I don't see anything about 2Gb limit being fixed ,only about support for second map on SD card !
Garmin does not include the nuvi 760 in their list.

Don't register your device, Garmin Express is used to update millions of devices I'm sure they have no interest in an 18 year old device.

Before you update look in your Garmin folder for GUPDATE.GCD and copy to your PC
