For those wanting to use their GO 710/910 a bit more, but were frustrated because the suction cups on the holders are the weak spot (as is for all tomtoms of that generation), here's what I did for mine:
- Remove all traces of the former rubber suction cup
- Use a rotary tool like a Dremel with a sanding band to level the place where the suction cup was seated.
- Buy a suction cup from aliexpress like these ones (diameter = 53 mm):
[Please Register or Login to download file] - Cut the threaded end of a suction cup so that only about 5 mm of it is left.
- Make sure the TT holder is unlocked so that as much of the support is "outwards". Drill a hole on the holder (4 mm diameter).
- Put some drops of UV-activated Resin (or normal epoxy), enough to cover the drilled hole. Put the threaded-end of the suction cup in the hole. Some resin might get out of the hole, I don't think it matters, it might be even better for solidity.
- Let the resin cure (with exposition to the sun, or otherwise). Make sure the suction cup stays parallel to the base of holder during cure.
Et voilà:
[Please Register or Login to download file] Be sure to have something like a Credit card in the car to release the suction cup from the windshield. Do not brute force the removal of the holder, you will damage your repair !
I hope that helps. Pretty sure most of it can work on other types of TT holders, especially the old ones.
