TT One IQ - map copy ultra slow - update booloader ?

Postby pinhead4 » Fri Nov 26, 2021 6:27 pm

Hello

I have another question about my TT One IQ Route :
It takes more than 6 hours to copy a 1.5Gb map to the device.
From what I saw here and there, it seems to be related to a bad booloader.
Do I need to update the bootloader ?
Can I use the BL from this post ?

Here is the ttgo.bif:

DeviceName=TomTom ONE IQ Routes Edition
DeviceVersionHW=ONE IQ Routes Edition
DeviceSerialNumber=PSxxxxxxxxxx
BootLoaderVersion=55136
ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=9541
ApplicationVersion=3145439.2
CurrentMap=United_States_1080_11175
CurrentMapVersion=1080.11175

Storage:
Size 1957MB, Free 335MB

No SD slot.

The bootloader in the other thread is lower than the one you already have so I wouldn't proceed with the update unless Holyhead confirms it as safe to do so

Try a higher bootloader. I can,t guarantee that it works.
Download the file unpack and read the readme file.

A warning is in order here, make sure there is sufficient charge in the battery, it is better to do the flash connected to an external power supply.

Contrary to what was previously stated that the bootloader will only install an update to a higher version is not true, you can go back to a lower bootloader in 2 steps.

If the flash update somehow fails, I have a special Navcore somewhere that can fix it.
I don't have that experience myself and I'm certainly not going to try it out, but it helped someone else, he said.
Just believe him that he has spoken the truth.

This device does have an extremely long upload time, although I regularly have to update one that also takes more than an hour to set up Europe Central.

I strongly doubt that the USB port handling will become much faster

Thanks for all of your answers.
I'll will try to upgrade the bootloader, and let you know if the transfer speed has been improved.
1 hour or so to upload a 1.5 Gb map was the time it took before it switched to 6 hours. Don't know what could have been the cause of this, because I didn't use TTHome in years.

If you download a new map of the devices updated with Tomtom Home software with TTActivator, if you download the map first to your computer instead of directly to the device, delete the old map on your device from the computer and copy the new one, you will not waste time by downloading it again each time. Then again activate the new map with TTActivator.
I wrote what I wanted to tell in Turkish and translated the English translation into Google, now you can put the sentences in their proper place.

That's what I do.
I never handle maps via TTHome. I download them directly on the computer, then copy them through USB to the device. That's where it takes 6 hours to copy.
I've finally decided to not take the risk of updating the FW, as pe1agp said, if it doesn't improve the USB transfer speed, that doesn't worth the risk of bricking it.

But how is your situation now ?
How about the USB speed wen you connect an USB stick?
Fastactivate is the most easy way for old devices.

Still unchanged. I tried to copy a map to the TT using the original TT USB wire connected to a USB port on the back of the PC, and it still takes 5-6 hours to copy 1.5 Gb

I don't have a stick on FAT32 file systerm, but with a NTFS stick, it takes 45 sec to copy this map on USB 2 port, and 5 sec using USB 3.

I don't see how FastActivate is related to USB tranfer. I only use it to activate the maps. Am I missing somthing ?

No you're not missing anything.
Fastactivate is the most simple activator with an old TomTom.
Somewhere in my opinion something must go wrong in your TomTom, 5 to 6 hours is a lot.
You could try the various other bootloaders, if you pay close attention not to run out of power you can forward or backward with another version.
But on the other hand, if you still get to where you need to be, take it for granted that the upload takes a very long time.

I have had some encounters with TT devices which operate normal but are a big pain to install new maps. Up to six hours but in a few cases much longer. I never found what the cause was of this but afterwards the TT had no problems in day to day usage.
So, if you encounter a 'slow install' TT just be very patient knowing that it will be allright.

Quick update :
I've tried Teracopy, it took 2h40 to copy the all files, but cline.dat (840Mb) gave a timeout error. Retried a couple of times, without success.
So I had to copy it to the TT with the original Windows copy system, which took 3 hours for this only file.
I've also saw Teracopy struggle with some small files, like poi.dat or others, where nothing seemed to move for like 10 minutes or so. The copy bitrate never fell down to 0, but it looked like it was just freezed.

Last time I had a perfectly decent XL and it took about ten hours to copy Central_Europe.
But in the end it performs normal.
