Can you access it with a PC? (you will need activesync or wmdc installed on the PC to connect to it, and it'll show up as pocket PC or windows ce device in my computer) if you can then it's not bricked.

The USB port on G500 itself just plays up, Windows detects the device connected and then after about 2-3 sec it doesn't and then all over again, kind of flapping connection. Windows keep saying the device connected to USB v1 port when in fact its v2.
So I can't have a proper USB connection yet :(

Just found a fault in resistive touch panel: pins 1 and pin 3 have almost short circuit - measured with a multimeter, it shows just ~ 800 ohms! This is either X+ and X- or Y+ and Y- on controller chip pins. Could this spoil realtec alc5611 audio codec & touch panel controller? Audio works tho..

Do you have activesync or wmdc installed, it won't connect without it.

Here's something you can try...

Create a plain text file with...

\windows\control.exe

...in it and save it as SHELL.ini (not SHELL.ini.txt) and place it on an empty SD card (not SDHC)

Place card into device and reboot, what happens?

Thanks for your input mate. Just tried out your proposal but nothing else happens as the touch screen doesn't work and I'm unable to press the OK button on the WARNING screen (straight after 1st screen where it shows Binatone logo in the middle and "drive like a local" on the bottom). Trying to figure out whether the realtec controller is partly faulty or just the thouch screen itself (it seems the device cannot see the battery - the voltage measurement is done on the same realtec ac/dc converter as the touchscreen).

This won't be a ROM issue, unless someone flashed the wrong ROM in the past, which can cause hardware items like the screen and sound to not work due to different hardware drivers etc.

Load up Total Commander on the device and have a good look around, Activesync/WMDC is a pain for hiding files from view on the PC, run some exe's, etc.

Hello,
I'm thinking of buying the Binatone S500 from Amazon
[Please Register or Login to download file]
but only if I can upgrade the software and maps.

I've had a good read of the advice on this page and clicked on the links to 'IGO Primo 2 for Binatone Devices' and the link to the maps. But it seems the links might be out of date as I can't see where to download. One of the links wants me to download Embedupload on my machine 1st, which I don't want to do. I just want the .RAR files.

Can someone post a link to the files that I need to download ?

cheers
Bobster
