Firstly your device uses NTU maps for Europe.
Check & confirm your HWID is 2270 by looking at your garmindevice.xml

Make sure your device is fully charged.
Unpack contents to fresh SD card formatted FAT32
Ensure your device is fully OFF (not in standby), insert the card into your device and power on.
"Loader" will appear on screen for a while then the device will boot up when the flash of patched firmware is complete.
Your device may reboot its self during the process just be patient.

Your SD card will have a new file named 154.bin this is a backup of the device's non-volatile memory region and may save your device later if needed,so keep a copy of it somewhere safe.

Download and unpack GPSMAP66_WebUpdater__720_Patched.gcd on to the PC where your device is attached. Your desktop is easy

Then you can drag-and-drop GPSMAP66_WebUpdater__720_Patched.gcd onto the WebUpdater "Short cut icon" on your desktop.

Of course it can go wrong, any software update can.
Why do you want to patch, what maps are you trying to use ?
GPSMAP 66 | 3028 | 210 | MAP: Yes | GMA: Yes | MSV: Weak | GVS: --- | File:
MSV: Weak - it verifies the validity of map signatures in a simple way, you can unlock an .img using gimgunlock-0.04 (without patching your firmware), but in case of unicode maps (CP65001) you must modify the CP value (see the Temporary authentication of Unicode maps*).

I want to use Topo Pro Maps (for hiking) like I have on my 62stc. That one is going for sale now.
I have tried to install those maps on my 66s but it won't accept. Can't verify.
I have tried to unlock some with gimgunlock- 0.03 but that doesn't work. I did not have version 0.04. Now I have. So I can give that a try.
Otherwise I might going to give OSM a try.

2. is it possible to return device to its original state after the patch?

1. Patching allows you to use other Unlocked maps that are shared here. Garmin Express will only update maps you have a LifeTime subscription for (Central Europe for you)
2. Yes you could reinstall the original Firmware (Not Patched) but then you would not be able to use Unlocked maps, not sure why you would do this.

Hello everybody! Yesterday i friend gave me his new Alpha 100 Unit. I show in the information menu version 7.90. Will we be able to patch that version? Also anyone knows where to find the version in order to patch the device? (the garmin site does not have any information and files to download.they still have the 7.80 version [Please Register or Login to download file] )

Not the first "New" device I've come across displaying the next FW version.
Check the device for the GUPDATE.GCD and share it here.

After reading and collecting a lot of information presented here, I unlocked my GPS ... thanks to the help given to others by GarmanNuvi and FireFox58 when they helped other colleagues.

I am going to summarize the steps that I found. For those who have the same GPS, it can be useful without searching everywhere as I did.

Process:
SD Card Kit

In addition to this, make a backup copy of the File generated by the update in case I want to return to the old firmware in the future.
