I have a GPSMAP 78S and cant find the HWID numbers or the GUPDATE file. I checked hidden folders and garmindevice.xml but its nowhere to be found

What are you trying to achieve? as this device does not require patching if it is HWID 1113
In your garmindevice.xml open with note pad your HWID will be xxxx

I wanted to ask if i have a Garmin Drive 51 device with HWID 2586, do i only patch the GND file with the patcher, or do i also need to do all the rest of the stuff that is written in the tutorial? Like do i also need to complete the steps with RGNTool and Updater.exe?

If you are going to DIY patching, yes you have to follow all the steps,but finding the spot to get it into Pre boot mode can be tricky.
IMO it is easier to create an SD card kit to do the Patching and to create the back up all in one action.

You do have the right firmware link for your device. I will NOT make an SD card kit until I'm given the HWID as that is the most important information for Patching. I'm only interested in the HWID from the device's garmindevice.xml and not the model name as Garmin may use different firmware for different countries/areas that's why you see Posts with HWID xxxx ONLY as using the wrong firmware could leave your device "Bricked"
The example you quoted is HWID 2996 DS 61 is for Asia Pacific.

Hey guys, do you have experience with echomap ultra 102 sv devices? it is a pretty new fish finder, a marine device. It doesn`t want to take osm maps or anything. It always tells me that the map is not authenticated and that the map will be deactivated on a date in december. Anyone knows if these devices can also be unlocked somehow?

Got it. I found the description for the HWID.
But now I'm struggeling with the unlocked maps.
They worked on my old nuvi, but I am not able to get them running on the drive 51 (I tried different folders: "/garmin/map" ; "/garmin" ; "/map"; also different naming of the file: "gmapsupp.img" ; "usa_2019.10.img" and so on.

Ist here someting else I can do?

I copied the file to the internal memory. Works like a charm, so the img is working, but not from the memory card.
