Post #1 is 10 years old ,the SD card Patch kit is the easiest/latest way.

Make sure your device is fully charged.
Unpack contents to fresh SD card formatted FAT32
Ensure your device is fully OFF (not in standby), insert the card in device and power on.(You can use the Power Cable to power on if the battery is in poor condition)
"Loader" will appear on screen for a while then the device will boot up when the flash of patched firmware is complete.
Your device may reboot its self during the process just be patient.

Ok I will do as you write. I understand that if everything goes ok then the device will be unlocked. And how to upload and which maps of Europe are suitable for BMW Motorrad Navigator 5?

Correct Firmware is determined by the HWID in your case 2842.
You have asked for the Patching software from post #1 so we don't know if you want Original or Patched and you are asking on another forum as well.

The original firmware is available, but as I understand it, it has a region lock. It seems like I might need a modified version or something along those lines. I'm not entirely sure, though, as I can't find the right information. Anyway, thanks for the help!

Unfortunately it looks like Drive, DriveSmart 52,55,65,71 zumo XT ,Alpha 200i, Montana 700 are all in the same category.
No solution as the Universal Firmware Patcher does not recognise the new encrypted format.
