Back Up OS Maps on Garmin 65s

Tue Mar 19, 2024 7:11 pm

Hi All I'm new here so apologies if this has already been covered.

I've just ordered my first GPS (Garmin 65s) with 1:25 OS full UK TOPO.
I'm going on a three week hiking and camping trip in a couple of months in Scotland. I'm experienced in outdoor navigation, I normally rely on paper maps but I've decided to get my first GPS.
Anyway, I was wondering if there is a way of backing up the SD card just in case it fails? I'm a photographer and I've had cards go bad in the past.
Also I was wondering if I can make a copy of the card to use in another device? I was thinking of getting a cheap back up one (maybe a 32x?) off ebay to put in my girlfriend's bag on the hike.

Is this possible or will I run into issues?

Welcome to the forum.
Shared here already Garmin TOPO Great Britain v3 Pro 1:25k
Garmin maps supplied on an SD card are unlocked specifically to the SD card by its serial number. You can make a copy but to use them on another device they would need to be unlocked and the device Patched to be able to use unlocked maps.

That's great help thanks. I think I'll give that a go if I can find a compatible device cheap enough.
