Since we are different people is what you like not necessarily what I like.

I understand that everyone is different - I was just looking for others opinions, that's all. It's a PIA to set up these systems (or even find working download links), so unless the other apps have gotten significantly better over the past few years, it's just not worth the time and effort to try and get them working - which is why I was requesting the opinions of others... Unless someone says "yes! xxxx GPS app is absolutely awesome!", I'm not going to bother. When I compared them all years ago, there was nothing even close to the functionality, flexibility or visual experience that iGo offered.

So - anyone else have any opinions??

Well I'm sticking with latest igo primo and igo8 I put two folders on sdcard and stuck both versions and I can switch between the two and have NQ maps on primo and tomtom on igo8 will try them out for awhile then decide which suits me best. My old china radio a few year ago had igo on and I found better than garmin, navman, tomtom etc so will probably love the newer versions. Though I'm happy with my nuvi its a pain when sucker comes loose with the heat and it flies off the dash lol that's why I bought the xtrons dab/dvd/gps etc at a great price in uk of £169

Perhaps when it comes to routing and routing only. Then the maps are as important.
But the question is NOT what program is best, but which program do you like best, the package of completeness, functionality, visual presentation, etc...
And then should come to mind: without or with skin (and which skin) - in case of IGO and Primo.
As for myself, my package (WinCE6 and Android) is Primo2.4 + diMKa skin + TT maps. I stick to that. Complete, funcyional, visual okay, good routing, excellent additional settings, and more. Which program offers that much?

I would understand if someone liked IGO8 instead, or Amigo or Sygic or Navigon.
Gopal is crap. TomTom is ... corny, not attractive at all, expensive too, but good routing, equal to Primo. Garmin is about the same as TomTom and doesn't work well on CE.
Just my 2cts.

Yeah, when I looked at TomTom a few years ago, I couldn't believe how bad it was visually - it looked horrible graphically... The iGo apps have always seemed to be the best graphically.

Also, I just transferred Primo to a class 10 SD card and couldn't believe how much of a difference it made in startup time (compared to the class 4 I was originally using) - I always thought that SD class didn't matter that much for navigation use, but damn does Primo start a lot faster on the class 10 card! :-) That is one thing I didn't like about Primo was the startup time - but it's much more acceptable now (about 25 seconds on my 2DIN).

I found class 10 better I use a 32gb class 10 with both versions of igo on and boots fast and more or less locks onto satellites in seconds as well with dash mount aerial but will be changing to a roof mount

Sygic was pretty good when I last used it before primo on Android was available.

What do you guys think of NextGen? I was not impressed... It seems that it's just not optimal for automotive use since a lot of the "hot spots" are so much smaller in size than they are with iGo 8 or iGo Primo. To me, it seems that it tries to take advantage of high-resolution screens too much and makes everything too small...

Thoughts?

Plus I understand there are license problems with NG.

Yeah, that too - but I'm sure that will be resolved soon enough... But even if there were no license issues, I just didn't quite "get it" - not sure why anyone would want to use it. Didn't see any obvious "pros" - just "cons"... Just because something is newer doesn't always mean that it's better....

Maybe I missed something? Anyone else have any input?

I've been wondering the same thing. I have been using Primo since 2011 (just updated the Canada maps though). Everything has been working well other than some reboot issues when getting deeper into the functionality such as 'avoid this road' or when stuck in traffic and it recommends an alternate route. If I click on this alternate root, it reboots. Makes me wonder if I should try igo8 instead.

@RapidRich - just replied to your PM. I'm sure we can get Primo working properly for you all of the way around. I think you have a data.zip issue - but are also probably running an older version of Primo. Anyway, I can also send you a complete version of iGo 8 as well if you want to try it. Both have their strengths and weaknesses. I recently switch from iGo 8 to iGo Primo - so far, I think I'm going to stick with Primo for some of it's enhanced functionality.... All depends on the person and their wants/needs though.

I have Nextgen working under WinCE6 and i quite like it.

The big problem i found was that the street name were far too small, but a line in "sys.txt" enables you to alter their size to as big as you want.

The on screen display of approaching speed cams could be better, but all in i think it is a worthy alternative to Primo.

There is no problem with licenses and they are all readily available.

Which do i prefer, primo or Nextgen? I still think that primo has the edge. I use primo 2.4......405512, with the dimkaWA_P174 skin and Nextgen 543580 with the Pongo skin.

You do need to take your time setting both of these programs up but the end result is worth it.

I'll take your advice and fix up Primo. Thanks again. :)

So you have licenses for all features of Nextgen (buildings, landmarks, alert points, address points, driver alerts, junction views, Smart Routes, etc)? When I looked at it, I could only get the basics working - maps and pois. None of the other content worked (they are all listed as inactive in the Contents listing)....
