I'm so new to all of this that noob is too good a word for me...
What is the idiot's guide to updating this set of files to use USA maps instead of Europe?

Simple:
Delete (better move to an other medium like hard disk) the folder(s) /content/map (there can be different map folders : map_NT, map.map_OT, ... depending on the mapset/mapmaker), /content/building, /content/dem (when the Europe DEM file is in it), /content/phoneme, /content/POI, /content/speedcam - I think I got them all.

Download in the iGO section the US maps and US files you want, then copy them to the correct folder - just make sure the structure and filename of the folders you create (or copy) is identical to the original structure. When you only need one set of maps (Navteq) just put the maps in the /content/map folder., no need for the other map folders then

Three remarks I think of now:
1. For US maps, best download a Navteq set (mostly recommended as the best maps for USA). It's possible/probable that in the download are all files needed, like POI, Phoneme, etc, so no further download is needed. I can't tell for sure what exactly is in the USA download file.
2. You do not need all folders or files.
3. Questions related to iGO can be asked in the iGo General Discussion Forum.

Being from the US, I'd like to add one comment if I may. Maps [.fbl] should be Navteq and POIs should be TA. Maps: content\map. POIs: content\poi. Yes, you can combine Navteq maps and TA POIs.
If it ain't broke don't fix it!
ALWAYS BACK-UP YOUR FILES/FOLDERS BEFORE MAKING EDITING CHANGES!

Please do NOT post any thanks. Simply press the hand icon with the "thumb up" which is the thank you button.

You may ;)
I did not think of that, but I am on the other side of the big swimming pool.

Thanks Nabi and Chas521,
I really appreciate such a direct response. I must say that in reading over this forum for the past few days, I've read more posts from the two of you than any others. You guys are awesome.

I was going to send a PM but I'm too noob-ish and I'm not allowed. At the risk of polluting with thanking instead of clicking thanks...

Nabi and Chas521, you guys are really working hard on this forum and it's impressive. I've been on a lot of car forums, but I'm a computer geek at heart and by trade. Kudos to both of you for keeping the information so organized and being so careful with your writing. In pouring over all of this stuff for days, most of the posts I ended up copying to my notes were from the two of you.

I was going through all of this with an eye towards setting up a multimedia/gps rig for the wifemobile. But, after learning what can be done, I might set one up for my car too.

Also, do people take new Nuvi's or other stock units and start messing around with the setup? I must admit that the nuvi with lane assist is an impressive stock setup that I don't think I can better. But, my old Garmin C330 might be fun to play with.

A few Erisin details for any other readers with low skill levels on this stuff.
Erisin seems to sell 2 basic units with different costumes. All of you can read, but I'll enumerate here for convenience.
GPS subsystem specs for cheaper units:
Sirf Atlas GPS processor.
64MB internal mem.
WinCE 5.0

GPS subsystem specs for (slightly more) expensive units:
Sirf Star IV
128 MB internal memory.
WinCE 6.0.

This latter setup is in the unit featured in this post. They sell that for about 300 even or slightly less depending on other options. In all of my searching, that's the best deal around for that configuration. It's what you might find on units costing two to three times that price. However, Erisin doesn't seem like the Cadillac provider in terms of overall quaility. In reading lots of posts, perhaps a WinCE 5.0 based system is better than 6.0 with respect to compatibility with different software configurations. Over time, I'd expect WinCE 6.0 to be the new standard and for the customized software to migrate towards that platform. Let the gurus add additional comments or give me a rash of grief for sidetracking this post...

Has anyone got this in one complete file to download?

I'm on a slow connection & it's tedious downloading multiple files, especially when I can only download one file at a time.

I did it over the weekend. I got them all and they looked good based on my extremely limited knowledge of what I'm looking at. I must say it was one of the most painful downloading experiences of all time. Nothing special about this particular set of files. Just painful because of these downloading services. The download site used for these files seems to be the best of the bunch in terms of that pain.

If you're going to use the browser, use the same, multi-tab browser and never close this page's tab. For other file sets, I ended up downloading and using MiPony which really did help keep things organized. I think that works with this download site too. Also, you might try the other clients recommended in the signature of chas521's posts.

Thanks. Have you got it installed?

Can you tell me the build date & version from the Help/About screen.
Cheers.

I found this thread with a JDownloader link so I'll install Jdownloader & try that.

Ha! Good comedy is always a sign of a great forum. :)
Not even hardly. I haven't even decided to buy the unit so I have nothing to install in. I'm just way anal-retentive. So, I kinda pre-downloaded a bunch of stuff and did a bunch of reading so I can play around if and when I get the head unit.

Is there a way I can answer your question by navigating the file archives themselves?

So, this is iGO Primo which I think is referred to as iGO 9. Anyway, that's what a lot of the folders are called.
All of the "part" files have a copy of mobilenavigator.exe which I think is the main exe file. Let the others check me on that.
It's file version is 9.2.1.0 and the Product Version string in the details listing is: 9.2.1.178658
Copyright 2010.

This brings up a question...
Lots of the partXX.rar files (perhaps all since I didn't check) have this file and the same sys.txt and data.zip files.
Won't these overwrite each other when I unpack the RARs and put them on an SD card?
