Recomendation For MyGuide 4228 Harware

Postby Atasas » Mon Feb 14, 2011 10:57 pm

Hello all! (first of all)
After a long research and helping hand by one of the members, I finally found decent place to learn all things SatNav!
I got this stupendous unit and wander if you could help me out?
Specs:
MY GUIDE 4228 4.3" TFT Touch Screen SAT NAV with UK and Western Europe Mapping
372 MHz Processor
Windows CE Operating System
Turbo Software and TeleAtlas West Europe maps
RAM 64Mb / Flash 512 Mb
SD card slot with 2Gb SD Card with pre-installed maps
4.3" anti-glare touchscreen display
Battery / Lifetime Li-Ion 1050 mAH / 3 hours
Image

Wander what would be recommended for me to attempt to install on it?
I personally sick of TurboDog, do have only best regarding TomTom(appears, that my Hardware will not be compatible with later TomToms), however iGo is lately been recommended by many. Will Require UK mapping to be decent, but occasionally I make trips to Europe (manly West)
I will be using new SD card and would love to hear also if there are alternatives to back up existing system (Mobile Center on Win 7 just does not start) before I would modify it?
Please note, I'm quite a n00b in this area, so beginners level of install/modification will be required. Also actual tools and way to unlock
Thanks!

When you plug your device into your PC what happens? Some devices connect as USB mass storage so they will show up as a drive.

Or with Win XP and earlier you need to install ActiveSync, (Free download from Microsoft) and with Win Vista and 7 you need WMDC (Again a free download from Microsoft) Both are NOT installed as standard.

Once you get file system access to your device we can work out how to unlock it...

Win7 32 bit, all works well as for explorer access, but actual Mobile center doesn't start... I played about for a while now and it appears that something is bugered up in settings (Had this set-up for about a year) and been testing/playing with whole load of software/hardware earlier.

I had (now deleted)

here's what happens (nothing):

file SHELL (configuration one)

next issue- once changed- what happens to Map Data file?- SD is only 1.84Gb and new files of iGo Primo UK + POI's 225MB
Should I )once modified SHELL replace existing files with contents of Primo folder?
Just to say, that copied SHELL and required files to new SD
still the same- nothing
Code: Select all
GPS = "icons/files.bmp", "", 0

[GPS]
\SDMMC\iGo.exe
\\Flash Disk\\myguide\\myguide.exe"
\\Storage Card\\iGO8\\igo8.exe"

even after SHELL file contained all commands

Usually you just replace the MobileNavigator folder and rename iGO.exe to MobileNavigator.exe then you don't have to edit any .ini files, You could link to a shell if you wanted more than one programme.

The device specs suggest that Tomtom would work but if not Primo will.

Vista and Win7 don't have WMDC installed by default but gives explorer access, WMDC is only needed if you want to sync contacts and auto import photos etc, You may find Windows update installs it anyway.

Got WMDC center running (long story as how)
so called back-up is crap- it just backed up something like contacts... what I was intending, the whole device is not an option...
Code: Select all
http://www.mediafire.com/?isc9e2caja1ihwv
the SHELL file.
so the problem remains as how to not to allow TurboDog to start or any other to start up from SD Card before it boots up and none other is allowed?
Image
This is immediate boot screen, before it goes to Navigation Multimedia and Settings screen
I got Image tolls... just to say, that I got as ITN converter is map converter, and NaviTools does not work (dont get recognized) because of branding not being supported anymore. (another way of backup is gone)
As to be certain, which particular TT would you recommend to DL? just slap on a new card and report back? or is there Keygen'ning etc needed?
I'd love to find, that it would be as simple as, but actual boot screen dont encourage me.
ANW- I'll wait for your suggestions,
Thanks!

If you want to make a backup, Use windows explorer and drag and drop files to your PC, But first turn on show hidden/system files, WMDC is pointless unless you have a PDA.

The easiest way to run other software on "MobileNavigator" devices is to rename the MobileNavigator folder to MobileNavigator2 and create a new MobileNavigator folder with a new MobileNavigator.exe in it, This could be a new shell, another nav programme or a mortscript pointing to a programme on the SD Card.

Will do back up as you say, will try doing copying pasting wit new SD card and then, I shall attempt run as you say, via modifying SHELL file appears to be iGO (as it is appearing to be least "know how required)
Which iGo I shall try DL'ing then? I had Primo version, but it wasn't working. I need proper UK mapping and EU for main routes at least.
Thanks!

I'll post some links for you to try a bit later, I think Tomtom and iGO Primo should both work on this device.

I just remembered this thread for installing Tomtom on a Binatone B350 which is a similar device to yours

QVGA Blue [Please Register or Login to download file]
These are the CAB files. Extract anyway you can (linux has an uncab utility, for windows, it seems trickier but you can use WinCE CAB Manager - although I haven't tested using this).
This will result in a bunch of files mostly ending with three digits as the extension, i.e. SETUPDLL.999

Grab the following:
data.chk + TomTom navigator.exe (HTC, VGA, QVGA blue and black)
[Please Register or Login to download file]
and extract it.

What are the passwords?

Don't bother with the cab files, they are for windows mobile, use the weddingphotos.rar version as it contains the dll pack you may need, the passwords are: navitotal, Everything you need for Tomtom is in the other thread.

OK... perhaps I should start everything from new...
Tried Myguide copying content (whole as a back up)- some error kicked out; next tried replacing original card with another one (containing identical files)- phailed too!Image
appears to be problem in entering all letters as when Formating 'isk don't fit!
Downloaded (with quite a bit of effort) file of wedding photos, stuck it on Original SD card and when rebooted SatNav It could not see it either...

Back to square one:
How to clone SD card- identical to Original? How to back up whole unit?
Which files to download (apart from actual patch to be used for TT maps)? how to execute them? (unit still is not patched, boots to same MyGuide crap(irrespective of SD Card) which maps would be compatible (and or recommended)for sure, as specs of different TT units are better, than 372Mhz CPU on Myguide and other options as what does it do- a bit of a "dark horse" feature ways. BTW I downloaded Igo Primo again, but still the same questions as at the beginning of a thread..
Thanks!
I'll play a little more- read all again, but

Right...

Go into folder settings on your PC and turn off "hide known file extensions"
Get the spare SD card
Extract the Weddingphotos archive (Password: navitotal)
Take the navigator folder and copy to the root of the SD card
Rename the navigator folder to MobileNavigator (Note uppercase M and N)
Open new MobileNavigator folder
Rename Tomtom Navigator.exe to MobileNavigator.exe (Note uppercase M and N)

Open Notepad on your PC and type (Or copy & paste)

\SDMMC\MobileNavigator\MobileNavigator.exe

Exactly like the picture you posted in post 3
Save file as SHELL.ini (Not SHELL.ini.txt)
Copy file to root of SD card alongside the MobileNavigator folder

Put card into satnav and reboot
Tap navigation, Tomtom should start but there are no maps so it will throw up an error eventually

Now what happens?
Currently sleeping...

Thanks dude!
TT starts (in I guess French), but dont load- or anything- as you say TT maps are needed!- which would you recommend to DL?
also I got (AutoActivate_v1.5_09.01.2011) to patch that.
So what's left is to DL maps, store them on SD (next to MobileNavigator) copy required AutoActive and execute in through windows as admin (?)
