Navman N20

Postby Fatboyfun » Wed May 04, 2011 12:45 pm

The screen calibration tool puts Windows on hold in the background when it's active whereas other programmes don't. When i get home from work i'll post the official unlock for this device.

[Please Register or Login to download file] is the official unlock for the Navman N20

[Please Register or Login to download file] page explains how to install and configure, Follow the instructions at the bottom of the page entitled Installation Navman iCN- and N-Series.

Reboot the device, It will now boot to a blue desktop with a Start menu, The first thing you need to do is try to calibrate the screen using the Windows CE control panel, Tap Start-> Settings-> Stylus-> Calibration Tab-> Recalibrate
The stylus option is not installed on every device, If not then install Total Commander and run the Screen Calibration app manually.

Things you need to know...
The WinCE core installed will have been stripped of everything not necessary for the SmartST_CE application to run, This means that other applications may not work because they're looking for dll's that are not there, You can usually place the required dll's into the applications directory.
You can place applications onto the SD card and make shortcuts to go on either the desktop or start menu.
Shortcuts are easy to make... I'll use the Total Commander app from above as an example.
Open Notepad on your PC...
Type the path to the application as it would be on your device enclosed in quotes...
"\Storage Card\MobileNavigator\MobileNavigator.exe"
Count the total number of characters including quotes and spaces...
"\Storage Card\MobileNavigator\MobileNavigator.exe" = 51
Arrange the information like this...
51#"\Storage Card\MobileNavigator\MobileNavigator.exe"
Save the file as Name.lnk (.LiNK) Not Name.lnk.txt
Windows on your PC will hide .lnk

Place the newly created shortcut into either the Programs directory if you want it to appear in the Start menu or the Desktop directory if you want it on the desktop.

It must be a hardware problem with the digitiser, Placing programme shortcuts into the Desktop folder will give you a bigger icon to tap, but if you can't calibrate the screen there isn't much else you can do.

Windows CE (WinCE) 5 is a common operating system for these devices along with WinCE 4.2 and WinCE 6.

Read through the thread, The answers are there, Find the screen calibration tool and rename it to Auto.exe and place it in a folder called N20i (I think, It is written in a post in this thread somewhere) and copy to a SD card, insert into device and restart, When the screen calibrator is on screen you should have USB access, Undo the changes you made, remove the card and reboot again, You should be back to normal now...

thanks you but i read the thread and that trick doesn't work.more to the problem i copied the winceimg.bin from another navman model and updated the device and now it doesn't boot anymore.i think the winceimg for the n20i wich i found is corrupted.i'm struggling with the winhex and the bins i have for N20i.

If the ROM flash failed then only reflashing will fix it, and only the correct firmware will work, Back to scouring the internet i'm afraid...

BTW flashing the ROM only updates Windows CE, It does not fix the reboot loop problem which is on My Flash Disk

I've found a few ROM'S by searchibg for the filename of the archive rather than "Navman N20 firmware" I tend to find them on Russian and Polish sites, Google translate works wonders...
