Memory error

Postby 7omly » Thu Sep 15, 2011 11:42 am

On the advice of experts on here I have installed Igo8 on a 2gb sd card in my Foehn and Hirsch N30.
When I launch Igo8 I recieve the following error message: Out of memory Requested 697057331 Cache 858.
Does anyone know how to remedy this situation
Thanks in advance
All the best

This is a bit device dependable, however on most devices these sys.txt changes/additions solve memory errors.

[debug]
cache=2048
skip_eula=1
disable_outlookpoi=1
reserve_memory=1500000

Some more lines

[debug]
max_memory=42000000
reserve_memory=1835008
cache=262144

where max_memory indicates how much memory iGO can use and reserve_memory the amount of memory that should be left free.
When after this change low memory is still an issue, set reserve_memory to 1048576 (1MB).

Thanks for the replies.
I don't want to seem like a total idiot (but probably will) but how do I access this information.
I have searched through everything on the unit and the sd card and can't find any of these items.
For a total novice like me any help is appreciated.
Thanks again

Add the lines in blue to the sys.txt file that should be in the iGO directory using Notepad on your PC.

To make this a bit more clear:
In the iGO root (this is where your exe.file is on the sd) you will find a file called sys.txt. When it is not there (that is possible) you have to create it.
Open this file in a text editor like notepad and add these lines. See there is only one header [debug] and no double lines.
Save and close (when created, call it sys.txt)

These lines should do the trick.

Please report back.

Thanks again for the help.
I ahve tried all of the above.
I couldn't alter the sys.txt on the unit so I made a copy, modified the copy and replaced the original with it.
All to no avail.
I am still floundering.

Thanks very much to all who helped.
I followed nabi's link and realised I'd been a greedy arse and put far too many POI's on.
I deleted the complete Igo8 folder and reinstalled it with only what I thought would be the useful POI's.
It now starts but unfortunately now I can't seem to access any POI's despite them being in the POI folder.
The fight goes on.
Thanks again to all who helped.

What do you mean you can't access any POIs?

When I choose find POI around an address it asks me to select a POI group but none are visible, the folder contents show 0/0 and the screen is blank.
Despite this if I search the POI folder using explorer I can see them.
Thanks for replying.

I don't know where you keep your POIs but they should be in content\poi. My experience is to use file[s] with only a .poi extension. Is that what you are now doing?

When I open up my POI there is nothing there, it shows 0/0 folders.
If I use explorer to check the contents of the sd card I can see the POI's in the POI folder.
Thanks again for helping

Your own POI's (.kml) goes in ..\Content\Userdata\POI\ not ..\Content\POI\ Which is for the POI's (.poi) included with the mapsets

Check the exact location of the POI files, meaning path and folder name! The POI files are iGO POI's, I hope?
