How to install IGO8 on V7 NAV740

Sun Sep 04, 2011 1:34 am

I have IGO8 on an 8Gb SD card but it won't start. I've read in other forums (not Navitotal) that IGO8.3 DOES work on this unit (V7 NAV740 ). I'm a newbee with GPS but I'm not stupid I just need some guidance. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for your reply.

"it won't start" is too general to give any help at all.
How come it don't start?
What did you do so far and how?
And what does happen then? Any messages (quote exactly please)?

My apologies for being too vague. My unit starts up to the V7 menu with only the Multimedia, Calculator and Settings icons. The only thing in the root of the SD Card is the IGO8 Directory. This is what's in this directory:
Directory of H:\igo8

09/02/2011 01:23 PM <DIR> .
09/02/2011 01:23 PM <DIR> ..

Application.dat was copied then the copy was renamed IGO8.exe

contents of SYS.TXT

[folders]
app="%SDCARD%/iGO8"

[interface]

show_exit=1

Since there is not a command file like an autoexec.bat in the root of the SD Card then I can understand why it doesn't start but what am I doing wrong. If you need any more information, please let me know. Thank you again in advance for your reply.

First, you renamed application.dat to iGO.exe and yet I see both files? You may delete application.dat. By the way, it's a PDA build, so you won't have TTS voices (a single build excluded, PDA iGO don't support TTS)
Also, PDA build do have a folder called "2577" that is used for auto install IGO to memory. So be sure that folder isn't there.

I am not familiar with your device, but you are right. IGO won't auto start. Not this way. You need a shortcut to igo.exe. What do you see in the settings menu?

OK Thanks very much. In the settings screen the power management screen indicates to autostart the launcher. I can unlock this so maybe I can start it from Win CE 5. Rats, this DID have the 2577 directory. I thought that I had the PNA build. I will have to look around for the correct build. Is there someplace to get the PNA build on this site? Once I get the PNA build I'll try again and let you know how it went. Thanks again for your help.

I found this...

[Please Register or Login to download file]

But according to [Please Register or Login to download file] the original card is 2GB, So i doubt an 8GB card will work.
Storage Type 2 GB SD/MMC Flash included

Try using a 2GB card and rename the NEW iGO software to match the OLD iGO on the original card, According to the upgrade guide it should be...

\iGO\iGOpna.exe

I have this file and this is just to update the maps. My nav740 is currently running IGO6, I think. I'm trying to install IGO8.3 on it but thanks anyway for your reply.

When you are running igo6 now, then upgrading should be easy. Back up first, just in case.
Remove the contents of the folder where the igo6 is located and replace it by the contents of the igo8 folder. Make sure that the igo8 exetutable (igo.exe) has the same name as the igo6 executable (sometimes is called navigator.exe, mobilenavigator.exe, ...)This way you simply start you navigation as you did it before.

SOLVED I changed the name under the [Autostart] section in the addons.txt file, which is put in the root of the SD Card, from igopna.exe to igo8.exe. Fatboyfun and You pointed me in tne right direction. IGO8 works GREAT on the V7 NAV740 GPS. Thanks everyone for your help and patience.
