car Reversing mirror with GPS/Camera..etc (china import) Can

Postby cuhullainn » Tue Jul 31, 2012 8:30 am

Hi,
Got recently this reversing mirror with GPS (see attached sample picture). The unit comes with the GPS hardware but no software.
I have also purchased a new Copilot Live 7 package ( CD/Micro SD/ key card...etc )
The unit has a MTK3351, ARM11 processor, Embedded Windows CE 6 Pro.
I inserted the Micro SD card (with the directories 2577 & Copilot), set the "navi Path" to the "SDMMC\2577\autorun.exe" as instructed.
Launch the Navigation, initially I get the "Accept/Decline" licence screen, select "Accept", I get a message:
"Copilot, To complete your copilot install, tap the 'autorun' program located in your storage card.."
The process keeps looping back, i.e. I get once again the "accept/decline" licence screen....
I tried connecting the gizmo to my laptop using the Copilot Live desktop/Active synch applications but the unit is not recognized.
I also tried using the cab files directly available in the sd card but the unit "cannot find any associated program to run CAB" as it must be a pretty bare version of Embedded Windows CE.
Any idea apart from junking my US$ 68 purchase???

Regards
Paddy

I know nothing about copilot but is it compatible with windows ce 6?

Also you can unpack cabs with mscinf (I think) and do a manual install, you can use mortscript to write registry entries if needed.

Thanks Fatboyfun for your comments...
The Copilot version I have is compatible with all "old" versions of Windows Mobile, ie 2003, wm 5 and 6 (both for ppc and sp)
I did unpack the cab but the only script file is an XML extension and my gizmo has no associated applications to make it work.
I have downloaded Mortscript but cannot make it work, the gizmo would not execute .exe files ( as being incompatible version!):scratch_one-s_head_
According to the seller, it should be compatible with TomTom, IGO, Sygic, Route66...etc ( I assumed Copilot was part of the "etc" definition! You know what they say about Assume!!)
Maybe I should get hold of a copy of IGO or Tomtom to verify.

Well the good news is, you can get an (almost guaranteed) working version of iGo here for the grand total price of $nothing.00.
Good for a shot at testing, at least.
Forget about TomTom which does not play well with WinCE6x even under the best of circumstances.
But that's just my opinion..I could be wrong.

All versions of windows mobile are either wince 4.2 or wince 5 based, windows mobile sits on top of windows ce, so applications made for windows mobile may not run under windows ce without modifications, usually adding dll's.

Also you cannot just unzip cabs, you will end up with a load of files ending in .001 .002 and a setup.xml, if you have the patience you can go through the xml file and rename each file to it's proper name, or you can use a utility such as msceinf to unpack the cab properly, giving you an exe file to run, further tweaking may be necessary to get it to run under windows ce, or instead of all the above you could just run igo!

Thanks both for follow up.
I'll get msceinf and give it a try... if nok, will try IGO.
Will keep posted.
Cheers

4548

Open app
Use the first button from left (CAB) to select cab
Use the seventh button from left (Folder with zip, Not the one with "SEL" printed above) to unpack cab

You'll end up with the folder structure as it would be on the device, ie, \Program Files\Copilot\Copilot.exe + other files, and maybe some registry entry files.

If when running on the device you get a "Copilot.exe (Or one of it's componants) cannot be found" error then you are missing dll's, use dependency walker to scan the exe to see what's missing, drop any missing dll's into the directory where Copilot.exe is (Miopocket contains all Wince dll's that you can use here), still there are no guarantees that it'll ever work!

Or you could just install iGO which doesn't need any of this!

Well, Copilot is a goner!
I followed the IGO route, downloaded via BitComet IGO Primo 2 and followed in instructions for the maps as indicated.
Got"Everything else, Tambourine.. but "Nice Tea.." was no where to be found, I guess the Queen was too busy watching the Olympics!!!
Create the files/directory on the micro SD, mounted and Bingo, The IGO Primo 2 launched without problem.... Except could get the maps to load or maybe I missed something somewhere... The GPS is working fine, by zoming out I can see the outline of Ireland So that level of mapping is there but no roads/town ..etc.
Ok I know, I do live in the West, in the country, my house is not near an important road... so maybe I need to be on a tarmac road!! But my handheld Binatone X350 does show something.
So At least, it is a great achievement so far, thanks to you guys' help!
I will retrace my steps and see where I missed out!
Time to hit the sack for me!

Regards
Paddy

That indicates that the 'basemap' (basemap.fbl) is loading, but not any actual local maps. Basemap is for setup only and not suitable for navigation.
If you downloaded actual local maps (also with the *.fbl extension), perhaps you did not put the files in the correct folder which is:
Primo2\content\map
Once such files for your area are present and accounted for, and you restart Primo in an area where you can get a satellite fix, it should zoom right in to your exact location automatically. Then you can tell it where you want to go.
But that's just my opinion..I could be wrong.

I'll check my link later, if you got the "tambourine" file then you don't need the "nice tea" one.

EDIT: Two hosters are still alive!
