Bricked Chinese GPS device

Mon Sep 09, 2013 12:39 am

I recently purchased a 5" 128MB RAM 4GB internal flash 800x480 WinCE6 Chinese GPS from [Please Register or Login to download file] . It looks just like [Please Register or Login to download file] and not the one shown in the pictures from the eBay auction. I stupidly changed the registry HKLM\init Launch50 to a nonworking executable file in an attempt to stop the menu from launching. I am now left with a device that is stuck on the car next to a windmill screen. It was not in ActiveSync mode, and my computer does not recognize the device when plugged in. I have tried putting EraseReg.fmt on an SD card (I have tried an 8GB microSDHC formatted as both exFAT and FAT32 and a 2GB microSD[non-SDHC] card formatted as FAT16) without any success. I contacted the eBay seller about what the firmware version is because I did not write it down before I bricked it. Is there anything else I can try short of throwing it out the window and buying another one?

All you can do now is flash the rom again.

You broke the Windows ce startup sequence, so it's not booting properly.

You might find it's a rebranded device so the same rom could be used in other devices.

For YF devices there is firmware available for several models on the net.
Give Google a try for "The chinese firmware thread"....

I have found that. It's 86 pages long, and the links on the first page don't work. After the first page, it's hard to find anything. Any tips?

Search for suits your device and ask the uploader to provide a working link.
Other than that you can only contact the manufactorer.
