Ahh brilliant, that was easier than expected - I altered the files as explained in that link. Now when I power the device up, it goes to the Menu/Navigation screen, as per Binatone. Selecting Navigation gets the blue IGO screen, then it goes straight to Program Language, with the choice of selecting English UK or English US. I can click either of these but it doesn't move on to the next screen. It's not freezing up either, after 5 mins of selecting one, I can click the other, just nothing happens. I can't find anything specific to this fault in the search.
Any ideas?

Which version of iGO did you download, and also post the sys.txt

On these older devices Primo is a bit much for the hardware, iGO 8 is more suitable

It's recommended to start with just ONE MAP and add other stuff like speedcams, poi's and skins later, and also you usually need to tweak things a bit till it works 100%

One last thing, make sure you've downloaded a version of iGO that's suitable for your resolution 320x240, otherwise you just make more work for yourself

iGO8.3 I believe, you posted this link http://www.navitotal.com/forums/showthread.php?1837-Working-iGO-8.3-from-my-device in post 89 of this thread.

In copying the above sys.txt file, I've noticed the different resolution as you pointed out, I'll alter that now and try again :)

Sat Sep 03, 2011 2:52 pm

In fact scratch that, I adjusted the resolution and the language problem cured itself - there was an OK button at the bottom of the screen, can't be seen with the wrong resolution!
Everything seems to be working now, only problem is there only seems to be a map for Hungary, I'm in the UK.

Thanks Fatboyfun for your help getting this old device up and running!

No problem and may i suggest this post for the UK map (.fbl)

just a note to say I have tried this tom tom and igo and primo and destinator on the binatone X350 and I can get them all running apart from the 2 tom tom navcores , which by the way work ok on a navigo from the same card

the x350 just crashes back to the navigation screen after the tomtom splash screen loads and then refuses to do anything at all , despite trying the info in this thread , so no french , polish or english screens for me

so at the moment I can load igo8 , igo primo , and destinator , by moving any of them into the MbobileNavigator folder and having the exe file also with the name MoblieNavigator.exe

the trick with igo8 and primo is to get the pathnames and the resolution correct , and the nmea section using the correct com port and baud speed

hope that helps others

As said before the X350 is the "problem child" from the range, In most cases the environment variables are not set up properly in the registry, That's why you have to specify where the application is in iGO, and why Tomtom cannot find the maps, Making edits in the registry can help.

Fatboyfun wrote:Editing the registry is dangerous and can brick your device if you make a mistake, Double check any edits before saving them.

The registry key you need to look at is...
HKLM\System\Explorer\Shell Folders\
There will be several values here like...

Application Data
Desktop
Favorites
Fonts
My Documents
Program Files
Programs
Recent
Startup
Windows

My Documents should have a default value of...
\My Documents
Change it to \SDMMC
If it's not there then post back.

IMPORTANT! Do not edit any other value!

Place the map folder into the root of the SD card and try Tomtom again.

I just tried this on my X350 and with SDMMC or sdmmc in that section it never boots the sdmmc mobilenavigator file from that folder of the same name , despite having it listed in the ini file in the root directory of the sdmmc, switching back to My Documents allows it to work with primo , igo8 and destinator , and with no card in it boots the standard one from the flash ( smart2go ? )

so basically it didnt boot anything off the card when using the value SDMMC , so back to igo8 or primo for now

X350's are the bane of my life! Everyday a new problem!

If after making the edits it won't boot from the card, then you can use Simple Launcher to point to the new app on the card, Obviously this means you need to edit the internal memory.

If you need to keep access to the original app, then use something like Universal Shell which allows you to run up to three apps.

tried simple launcher but cannot get it to boot the launcher , so have restored it back to normal and leaving it to run primo or igo8 from sdcard , and original navigator software from the flash alone , my navigo and foehn & hirsch can do the clever stuff anyway ;) just a shame about my 4.3 inch f&h

It's only ever the X350 that gives problems!

A quick note on mine, been to watch the rallying at San Remo, drove down thru France, across into Italy. I reloaded France, Monaco and Italy with 3D buildings, POI's and cams and the device ran fine. At one point driving through Nice city centre the screen went all jiggly. I think this is due to memory, not keeping up with the quickly changing roads but it came right when I swithced it off and back on.
After we'd been to Italy and Monaco, I deleted them maps and just left France and UK. We came back the same way and there was no problem coming back through Nice, so I'm fairly convinced its just down to memory.

But the device never missed a beat, and never got us lost either :)
Thanks again gents for your help getting it sorted for me.

My Binatone B430 really struggles with 3D buildings so i leave these off the device and it works fine, When installed the screen refresh rate is down to around 0.5Hz (Once every two seconds), The vocal instructions keep going ok, So it must be the display hardware.

To get a faster screen update, i leave out the 3D buildings and Dem files, And recompress all the Zip files (Data, Branding, Skin, Voice etc...) to the least compression possible.
