No Sound (at all) on iGo Primo 1.2

Postby Chuck88 » Wed Sep 14, 2011 4:02 pm

No but I'm pretty sure that silent mp3 should work, as long as the device is playing from SD, USB or iPod (USB too).

However, no more radio ... during navigation!

It may not be a perfect solution but for some devices it may be the only solution.

Unfortunately, looks like that the Primo 1.x sound channel that routed to the device hardware is only opened when the SD, USB or iPod (USB too) is playing.

Since the radio is something that is playing only a couple of seconds after the car is ON (if radio source was selected before turning OFF the car), it doesn't need a Windows driver in order to work, where the explanation laid upon. This makes perfect sense, at least in my case.

The CD/Radio is a separate piece of hardware within the unit which has it's audio routed through the hardware mixer, The hardware mixer controls what sound comes out of the speakers, Windows CE runs the SD/USB(iPod) and navigation, The original navigation software tells the hardware mixer to mute the radio in favour of the navigation app, The newer version of iGO does not have the facility to control the hardware mixer, that's why it's silent until the SD/USB app is active which does control the hardware mixer and allows the sound from Windows CE through, which includes iGO.

Hope that makes sense...

i'm running in a similar situation:

igo 8 plays sound with this sys.txt

Code: Select all
[device]
sdcard_name="Storage Card"

[gps]
port=4
baud=9600

[interface]
exit_on_sd_remove_fast_always=1
automotive=1

[modules]
ISKIN="FORYOU_SKIN"
IEXTERNAL_BACKGROUND_PLAYBACK_MANAGER = "GEN_REG_EXT_BGPLAYBACK_MGR"

[rawdisplay]
screen_x=800
screen_y=480
highres=0

[sound]
app_wnd_handle="Launcher application"
std_muting_device_needed=1
use_postmessage = 0
app_message_start= 3033
app_wparam_start=3
app_lparam_start=1
app_message_stop= 3033
app_wparam_stop=3
app_lparam_stop=0
pause_mp3_sooner=1

[warning]
warn_distances="120:750,110:500,100:500,90:500,80:500,70:500,60:400,50:400,40:400,30:200,20:200,10:200"

yes. but i don't like it and primo runs pretty fast... except for the sound problem! seems like IEXTERNAL_BACKGROUND_PLAYBACK_MANAGER = "GEN_REG_EXT_BGPLAYBACK_MGR" has to be involved too

You'll probably find that the original iGO8 was modified to use the sys.txt entries, and they have no effect on other versions. Is there any 3rd party folders/applications within the original installation?

I think no... where do I have to look? nothing strange in data.zip

bundled with igo8 ver 8.3.5.150162... sounds strange to me that a 2.0 amigo can't support instruction for an older product or doesn't have such a feature :|

Sometimes certain editions are custom modified by the manufacturer to work a specific way on their hardware. If you replace this custom build with something else, it does not have the modifications, and therefore will not work the same way, or will be missing some functions.
But that's just my opinion..I could be wrong.

Unfortunately not every device can be "modified".

Ok, i found this threat and I did register myself at the forum to post that I have the same issue using one Clarion NX501.
I get the sound only when playing USB - Radio don't work.

I saw that we had a very deep and good discussion so I want to join you guys too. Anyone here are still looking for a solution or we need to give up since not every piece of hardware can be modified?
My next move was to try to HEX edit the .exe file and see what happend, but I'm not a developer so probably I wouldn't find the solution.

Anyway, I'll be here posting any improvement from my side.
I have iGo Primo versions 155811 and 1611797. They are working but without sound.

Other thing that I find out is that the Primo don't save the settings and each time that I turn on the radio I need to input all over again. I'm trying to find the solution for that now.

Oh, one more thing. I did build a Device Emulator to help me do the tests. It's running a WinCE6.0 Russian version in my Win7 PC.

Regards,
Carlos

A post about this subject crops up from time to time, I don't have access to a device with this issue to play with.

Primo saves it's settings in the SAVE folder, sometimes this gets corrupted, or maybe the SD card is write protected, Also check the sys.txt for entries that can change the settings back.
