What map be used with a Garmin 710 device?

Fri Jun 21, 2013 3:02 pm

Hello,

I've a Garmin nuvi 710, with City Navigator Europe NT 2008. I updated my device software to 5.40 by using Garmin WebUpdater and I'm looking to install an Israel map.

I tried the unlocked City Navigator Israel NT 2013.30, although I renamed it to gmapsupp.img, my device doesn't recognize it.
Is anywhere a spreadsheet to know what device/software version/map version compatibility?

Regards

There is no a spreadsheet, but an (incomplete) compatibility list of devices for every map on Garmin website ;).
The City Navigator Israel NT must be working on your device, because it is a "normal" NT map. I fear you are making something wrong, but without more facts I can't say what's your mistake.
I recommend to load the current 2014.20 as unlocked image version and copy it into GARMIN folder on a suitably SD card. The Image must be renamed to gmapsupp.img if it is gmapprom.img.

Your internal Europe map also should be renewed to version 2013.41 or 2014.10.

Hmmm... That map should work correctly in your 710.

Perhaps a silly question but what was it named before you renamed it? Presumably you extraxted it from any archive such ar RAR or ZIP before renaming it?

Have you placed it in the Garmin Folder of the GPS or Garmin folder on SD ?

Also, there are several newer versions available if you check the maps section.

Many TNX p!xeldealer and Confused for yr help ;)

Sorry for the delay, I was out.

I've loaded the unlocked City Navigator Israel NT 2013.30t and copy it into GARMIN folder on the 710 device (Flash card). The Image was renamed from gmapprom.img to gmapsupp.img... My 710 device doesn't recognize it. :dash3:

So, today, I loaded the current City Navigator Israel NT 2014.20_3051_imgUL_1252 as unlocked image version and copy it into GARMIN folder on a suitably SD card. Then I renamed it from gmapprom.img to gmapsupp.img... Tested works

Finally, I copied the tested (2014.20) gmapsupp.img from the SD card to 710 device (Flash card) and removed the SD card... Tested works like a charm :yahoo: :drinks:

BTW, there are 2 different maps in the current 2014.20 thread. May you be kind to let me know what is the difference between City Navigator Israel NT 2014.20_3051_imgUL_1252 and City Navigator Israel NT 2014.20_3051_imgUL?
and what does mean with codepage?

Kind Regards

One version has codepage 1252 for latin font and the other has codepage 1255 for hebrew font.

What means codepage you can learn [Please Register or Login to download file] :D

Question, probably for p!xeldealer...

Is it possible that the 710 can't recognize a map with a code page other than 1252 and that was perhaps coukous original problem with the 2013.3 map?

I do remember once having issues on a 755 when I mistakingly used a map with a codepage other than 1252 but it was so long ago I can't remember what my sumptoms were. Either wouldn't load or wouldn't render properly.

I don't think so. I've heard about not working search function in case of wrong codepage, but the map has to be shown.
