Garmin nuvi 200w & Drivesmart 50 problems

Postby philmountains » Thu Nov 18, 2021 3:25 pm

Well I don,t know ? I have given up on my drive smart 50 for the time being , its capacity is full and express will not update anymore , and the maps that are on it are not working , probably down to me and messing about with it , its patched and always worked OK .but I recently tried putting 2022 Europe maps on and its basically now a brick? the old Nuvi was a back up, it still works but for whatever reason I cannot put update maps on it , again I used to have no problem with updating this sat nav , it isn't patched, I didn't think it needed patching , the latest maps that are working on it are C N Europe 2016, have Garmin put a stop to things or am I missing something here ?
Thanks for any advise

Explain what the device is doing, not booting up, boot loop stuck on logo etc.

nuvi 2xx is really simple no patching requires to use unlocked maps, on a FAT 32 formatted SD card place the two Europe NT 2021.20 map .img files (West & East) in a folder called Garmin name them as your garmindevice.xml shows gmapsupp & gmapsup1.

Thanks I will give the nuvi another try as you have suggested, the drivesmart is full, only a few hundred Kb left, and the original Europe maps are corrupted or faulty ? boots up fine etc.. searches for satellites and finds, but apart from car symbol, shows nothing else on screen ? tried numerous times to update with a clean fat32 card, but express wont put update maps on sd ? or have option to reinstall on device
error every time .
thanks again for your help
sorry but could you explain how to find this -name them as your garmindevice.xml shows ?

Does not sound bricked to me ,more like the corrupt maps/files need to be cleaned up

On your nuvi 2xx in the Garmin folder you will find the garmindevice.xml ,make a copy to your PC & open with Internet Explorer (easier to view than text document)
This records what is on this device and where it all goes, so as above any supplemental maps are named gmapsupp or gmapsup1 and go in the Garmin folder.

Sounds like this is a regional version DS 50 UK & ROI or W. Europe to run out of space.
Is device Patched to use Unlocked maps.
I recommend using an SD card to add supplemental maps, as if something goes wrong you can just remove the SD card and start again, recovering a bricked device takes time and patients and is not for the newbie.

I would remove the maps/files you said you put on recently and then use Garmin Express to update.
I recently tried putting 2022 Europe maps on
