The City Navigator South America 2016.10 with 941.584k will run on my Nuvi 260W but the North America 2016.10 with 2.405.504kb won´t! Is the Nuvi 260W limited to 1 or 2gb size maps? If so, there´s a way to reduce the size of the North America 2016? Thanks

The limitations for file size on some old units are 2GB but you can always split the maps on SD card + device memory ! In order to split or resize a map you need to imported first on a Mapsource for PC or MAc and unlock them.

I believe it's a 2GB map limitation size on older models (there are some number of tile issues too, but the maps here seemed to be built with the correct limitations). But you don't need to reduce them, read on....

The 2017.10 North America maps have special broken down files less than 2GB for the lower 49 states and one for Canada/Alaska with the border states and there is a lower US and Mexico one; I believe the latter two are both less than 1GB.

You can put these on separate SD chips or split between an SD chip and internally. I put the lower 49 states on my SD chip and Canada/Alaska with the border states in my internal memory of the GPS and it's like I've got all of North America except Mexico.

There doesn't seem to be any overlap issues when I'm in the northern border states but you might want to make sure you have the latest firmware update (a version or two ago had a note about overlaps).

UPDATE: This has not been running as smooth as I thought it was.
My unit won't take files larger than 2GB so I used two separate files. I live close-ish to Canada, so I was trying to get both sets of maps on the GPS so if I did a spontaneous trip, I'd be good to go. I've been running with with the TWO 2017.10 files (lower 49 states on my SD chip and Canada/Alaska with the border states in my internal memory).

I thought it was fine but this weekend I had problems doing searches by city name (it hung and didn't find the name), I've had no problems with favorites or categories (no duplicates show), just putting in city names (not sure if it's the overlap zone (which is where I was searching or everywhere) but I popped out the chip and I was fine so it was something to do with the two maps.

So I went back and used the 2017.10 lower 49 states on my SD chip and 2016.10 Canada/Alaska with the border states in my internal memory and everything seems to be working better and if I need to I can deselect one or the other. If I do a long road trip in Canada, I'll put a more recent version on the SD chip even though I'm sure the old maps will be fine.
