Sorry don't know what the "address img file" is ?

The addresses are in the *.mdr file. In the gmap version it is a seperate file (see the mdr map).
In the gmapprom.img it is part of that file.

Hello everyone, I'm having trouble getting these maps to work on my Nuvi 255 or Montana 680. I believe the issue is that I don't have the correct files on the SD card.
Could someone please advise which files need to be present on the SD card for either GPS to read?

I downloaded the following and have unzipped them. Most have the same files once unzipped so dropping them in the same folder doesn't work without being overwritten.

nuvi 255 Unpack with latest WinRar, Create Garmin folder on FAT32 formatted SD card and place the gmapprom.img there change its name to gmapsupp.img

Montana 680 same as above except you might need to create a folder called Map and put it in there.

The City Navigator North America NT 2020.20.gmap.part 1 through 5 you have downloaded is to use with Mapsource or BaseCamp to create your own maps unpack and place in C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Maps

The maps you create are locked so you will have to use Gimgum

I tried your directions today and it still doesnt recognize the maps on Nuvi255. The only difference is that I used WinZip instead of WinRAR.

nuvi 255 Unpack with latest WinRar, Create Garmin folder on FAT32 formatted SD card and place the gmapprom.img there change its name to gmapsupp.img

Do you have any other suggestions?

Did you update the Firmware with Garmin Express ? version 7.80 is the latest

Try this, not compressed 7mb unlocked file for Hawaii just download and use.
[Please Register or Login to download file]

Put in Garmin folder on the device to see if it works, if it does ,delete from the device and put in the Garmin folder on the SD card ,if it still does not work you have a SD card or slot problem.

What do you have on your card to make NA2020 maps work on your Nuvi? Just a garmin folder with one file in it?

What do you have on your card to make NA2020 maps work on your Nuvi? Just a garmin folder with one file in it?

So we have proved there is nothing wrong with unpacking or the NA 2020 maps as it works on your Montana.
You also said the small Hawaii works, but where on the device as suggested ? the SD card ? did you delete it from the device
Why don't you tell us what you have done,what maps do you have on the nuvi 255 and the SD card what names do they have?
Older devices use gmapprom gmapsupp gmapsup1 you cannot have maps named the same.

I went back and forth between both gps' and after reading your last point, it was the file name that was causing the issue on the nuvi. Once I changed it to "gmapsupp" with nothing else, not even ".img" it worked.
As you said, on old devices this can cause an issue but on the Montana, the files can be named anything and all works fine.

I really appreciate all your help and patience to figure this out!
