Assistance with a NDrive Touch XL

Fri Jul 01, 2011 8:13 pm

Hello everyone, I hope you are all well.
I recently purchased a NDrive Touch XL (off Ebay) and it has a problem, (I think) I am a novice with satnavs.
It has no maps on it (I knew this when I bought it but have got those now, I am not even sure it has an operating system on it.
If I open the resident flash folder there is a folder called NDrive and in this folder there is a 3mb application called NDrive but I cannot find a windows folder anywhere.
If this sounds daft I am sorry but I am a novice at this sort of thing
The unit shows a yellow warning triangle with an exclamation mark in it. It also has an icon (a micro-sd card) constantly running from right to left across the screen. This doesn't even disappear when I insert a micro-sd card.

On the screen is displayed the following:
NDrive
v.3.5.17(846) DI

If anyone could help me I'd be grateful if only to silence the wife how is nagging me for having bought as she puts it 'another pile of junk off Ebay.
Thanks in anticipation and all the best
Tom

Hello
280 views so far, I am still hoping for some help with this, I didn't pay a lot for it but it is a nice looking unit and I don't want to throw it out if it can be fixed.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
By the way the wife is still nagging me!

Do you know anything about it's history? Like what the previous owner did to it.

If it's WinCE5 based then you *should* be able to get Tomtom working if not then iGO will work.

Thanks for the reply

Hello fatboyfun
thanks for the reply.
Unfortunately I have no previous knowledge of the unit.
When I connect it via USB there is no response from my PC, I don't know if this indicates the software on the unit is to blame or the USB reader is faulty.
It is a shame because it has a nice clear large screen which switches on instantly only to display an error message.
Thanks again for the reply.

How do you get into the residentflash folder?

Thanks for the reply
I have just plugged it in and for the first time the usb has detected it.
I can access the unit which indicates 6.20mb free of 6.23mb.
You will have to bear wth me becuase when they invented the word dinosaur I think they had me in mind. I am however (with the kind help of others) prepared to learn.
Where do i go from here to remove the annoying animated sd card which runs even after I have inserted an sd card.
Thanks and all the best

That means nothing to me lol, I think the NDrive app and maps may have been on a SD card, and that the animation is just the device asking for the card, Probably best to forget NDrive and try to install something else...

Hello everyone, it's been a while and surprisingly I haven't pulled all my hair out yet.
I have taken on board all the sage advice from those who know way more than me and I actually get past the splash screen now. Unfortunately that's the end of the good news because then I get an error message which reads 'Incompatible image file!.
I don't know if this is the result of having loaded on the wrong version of NDrive or the wrong maps or what. All I know is that pretty soon it is going to become a chew toy for the gerbils.
As always any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance and all the best
