If in doubt delete the DCT file on the device and repeat the activation with FastActivate.
In case the DCT files will be created corectly after this but the new map still does not work it only leaves an unpatched Navcore for the problem!
So either way download a SE ttsystem or use my installers to get a properly patched Navcore.
Also a clean install on an empty device of both Navcore and map often solves all problems ;)

As a side remark: Having a .meta.dct file in general indicated the successful appliance of the (FastActivate) patch.
But be aware that FastActivate will process a random (and therefore false meta code) and result in a invalid .meta.dct file that will not result in a working TT map. Garbage in, garbage out.

But if you use a meta code provided by the FastActivate program itself then you will have no reason to assume that this is invalid !

If you stick to NaviTotal and use the information and files from it, that is almost impossible to occur as NT is 99.9 % reliable with regard to their information and always self-cleaning.

ok thats cool guys, I'll give it a go. Just out of interest what can I delete from the root of the tomtom?

I have installed and messed about now so I'm thinking if it was a laptop I'd format the drive, reinstall windows etc etc - what can I do on the TT? Can I just format g:\ then install a new bootloader, maps and run activate? I'm also trying to free up space thats just full of rubbish...?

Sun Sep 08, 2013 1:58 pm

A bootloader can not be deinstalled or reinstalled. You can only load a 'higher' BL. But that's not really necessary in your case.

Formatting is not a practise being advocated by tendriver except in last resort.

The general principle is:
Make a backup (without map) if you got the map archive.
Remove everything - files and folders - but ttgo.bif and maps (not deleting maps saves you copying time later).
Reboot and connect to TomTom Home.
Install every Navcore (application) update that TTH offers. Probable several (2,3 or 4)

After that you can install downunder's fantastic v9.xxx NC and install all the maps you want provided you got the storage space.

In your case I wonder if you'd be better off to also remove the folders because you may have accumulated garbage.

Anyway, this looks like a big deal but it can be done within less than half an hour easy.

(If one of the moderators tell you otherwise: follow their instructions.)

PS: I came across a wonderful useful remark by tendriver that I'd like to quote:"
'tendriver' wrote: "No maps found' indicates that the navcore is not patched.
"Cannot use this map on this device" indicates that the map is not patched.

A small difference but not insignificant.

Your statement are is not really correct...
For quite some time now I offer a rescue bootloader for devices that have an incompatible bootloader installed.
Although no problem during normal use the wrong BL will cause massive problems for the USB data transfer, causing a simple map install to take hours.
There are also tools out there that offer a BL "downgrade" for TT's.

Sun Sep 08, 2013 2:54 pm

Okay, that's completely new for me but good to know.

But otherwise you agree about the approach that wmguk should take?

Sun Sep 08, 2013 3:30 pm

As I said many times:
If the NC and map are installed correctly all will work just fine ;)
Since we offer the meta codes right next to the download of a map it is easy to see which maps can work.
Same for the Navcore, there is a reason why we provide tutorials and installers ;)

Sun Sep 08, 2013 4:42 pm

Downunder, I appriciate all your help, I agree you have said many times etc about the meta codes and installers etc

I'm at a loss as to why when I upgrade the NC using the link you provided, then install the maps using the links you provided it fails to work continuously showing the error message.

The only thing I can thing is I'm clearly missing something or the installers dont work 100% in the situation I'm in. Either way I'll continue playing until I can resolve it and find out where the fault it.

Maybe I shouldnt rely on the auto installer links, and manually install it etc

Sun Sep 08, 2013 5:00 pm

If you use the Navcores from my installers than you only have to worry about a correct map activation.
;)

Sun Sep 08, 2013 5:06 pm

I believe the navcore is installed correctly.

I've checked the UK details and found this:

United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland v915.5074
CE 60 19 E0 F8 73 32 2A A3 0C 94 7A 7D 98 4B 94 United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland-817.meta

Is there a text document I can edit with the code to confirm the autoinstaller is using the correct code?

Sun Sep 08, 2013 5:08 pm

Also I used the installer from the Navcore-9.510 thread (http://www.navitotal.com/showthread.php?12861-Navcore-9.510)

Sun Sep 08, 2013 5:53 pm

The NC is fine, did you use the latest version of FastActivate or some older version you had on your PC?
You only problem is the map activation...

If there is not a .meta.dct file in the new map folder, the map is not patched. If so, put FastActivate Latest Update & a copy of your device's ttgo.bif file in the new map folder & run option 2 to patch the map.
