Cspeech and ASR are only necessary if you giving speaking commands and then you need a microphone (XXl has no mike)

1. The voices seemed to be temperamental, most default voices just wouldn't playback using the test button whereas other random ones would? In the end I copied my folder of voices from my backup and at least one of them worked.. Kept saying something to do with me not picking a proper computer voice or it was a recorded one or something not sure.

2. I might need some help on this one. On my old navcore whenever I would go into the toggle "Show Daylight Colours" or "Show nighttime" whatever it was called it would give a popup saying Show night time colours at night time? with a yes or not button. This way it would auto select the right colours depending on daylight/night time. In this navcore that popup windows doesn't come up... How do I get it to only show daylight colours during the day and night at night time?

EDIT, Forgot to add one.

3. Not a massive deal if I can't get it working but in my old navcore there was a "TomTom Services" menu item which allowed enabling the tomtom speedcameras POI that I put on my device. Can't seem to find the "TomTom Services" menu item in this navcore. Any ideas for this one?

1. Go to the voices directory and remove any *.dct files and try again. Computer voices need a map that supports TTS and Vocalizer.
2. Change the emulation to x50 and try again.
3. Same as answer 2

Have a read through this thread as a lot of these things are already discussed.

No luck with x50 I'm afraid, although I tried one called "SF" I think with the background of a british type flag and that one seemed to do the trick and enabled "TomTom Services" as well as the daytime/nighttime toggle.

Tiny bit off the thread topic but if the GPS continuously gets into a state where it boots up in that special run where it displays the warning and "Welcome to your TomTom" screen etc. does that confirm my suspicions that the battery is indeed failing?
If I use my GPS within a few hours it seems to boot up fine but if I go a day or two without using it then it does the whole "First Run" setup crap.

Thanks guys

1. Ok. You can use whatever emulation suits you best. Normally there are two ways to toggle day/night colours, the first is a manual change from one to the other and the second is found within the preferences where you can set it to change automatically but that option needs to be turned on to work....sounds like yours isn't.

2. No, that is normal. If you hit the power on button and you hear the TomTom drum roll and then have to agree to the warning screen, you know that the unit was previously turned off but if you hit the power button and you go straight into the main screen, then the unit was actually in standby mode (only the screen was off but unit was still active). If the unit is always in standby mode, your battery will deplete very quickly but it will hold it's charge if it's turned off completely. This is what makes you think that your battery is stuffed...it's not.

There is a workaround for this if you want the device to turn off every time you hit the power button to save battery:

Open up a text document and enter a number (say 300) which is an amount of time in seconds, then save and close it and rename the file 'suicide.dat' and copy it to the root of the device.
Now when the power button is pressed the device will go into standby mode but will power down completely after 5 minutes.

Personally I'd rather have the official NC 9.510 installed and use the suicide.dat file to save battery rather than use the 'auto power on' NC but it's up to you.

Thanks so far for your help, great to get more of an understanding into this all.

I've got an original XXL 540 but the screen on that one went all screwy so I got an XXL 540 "Classic" which is more or less the exact same imo just with a black bezel instead of silver.

I think I haven't fully understood the functionality of "auto power on" as I thought I did.

What I ideally wanted to happen is each time I start my car for the GPS to power on and when turning the car off for it to power off completely... So none of this standby business really. That was the primary reason for using this NC instead ;)

Is the auto power on functionality only going to happen if the device was in standby?

AFAIK the auto power on will function regardless of the power state.

You could try it with the suicide.dat file as well to get the unit to power off completely as you require it

Each time you start your car, the GPS will power on, but when you turn the car off, it doesn't power off the gps.

Thats what I thought would happen but no cigar. Cable is all plugged into unit and doesn't matter if I turn car just to ACC or fully on needs me to press the power button manually each time. I take it I'm doing something wrong just don't know where haha.
