peskywinnets wrote:I must be slower on the uptake than I imagined. Ok, I'm after Western Europe maps, but when I come to patch it, I see this...

1. "Incomplete Map(s):
Western_Europe-849.meta => .dct ERROR"

So a bit of googling reveals this...

"If you get a ".dct ERROR" message, it usually means the meta has not been released."

Ok, so now I need to learn about meta. In the 920 map sticky here...

http://www.navitotal.com/showthread.php?14731-920-Map-Collections-Only!!

it says this ....

2. "A map can't be activated until a meta code is posted with it !!!
Meta codes are posted as soon as we get them, so PLEASE DO NOT ASK!!!"

3. For my required map there is actually a meta...

; Europe_West_920_5241
BB 13 D4 14 D1 22 E5 C5 0A EF 73 0C C2 11 F0 BA Europe_West-849.meta

4. ....but how am I meant to use the meta data that posted next to the map?!!!

I tried dropping the above meta data into a text file called mete.txt (which some links on google suggested I should do), but that didn't work.

5. So how am I meant to get the right meta onto my SD in a format that fastactivate.exe will be happy with?

Many thanks :-)

1. There is not a meta for this Western Europe map.
2. This is correct.
3. In point 1 it appears that you tried to patch Western Europe 920.5241, which doesn't have a meta code. Here you have referenced the meta code for Europe_West_920_5241, which is a different map.
4. You aren't. Posting the meta code with the map is to let you know that the map is usable.
5. You aren't. The meta code is in the integrated meta.txt included in the FastActivate download.

Wow! Many thanks...so looking in the 920 map sticky again ...

http://www.navitotal.com/showthread.php?14731-920-Map-Collections-Only

....& scroll down to Europe_West_920_5241 - that looks to be a map I can use (i.e. it covers both the UK where I'm based and France where I'm heading in about a week!)....*and* there's some meta info immediately under it - which infers the map can be activated with fastactivate?

So, if I now download that map, I should be off to 'le Races'? (the reason I seek confirmation, is because the file factory is not a pleasant download experience - " server busy" etc - & I don't want to spend a day or two downloading all the separate parts only to find it doesn't work)

& on & on it goes (all of a sudden their £40 map charge now looks good value for money vs the time I've spent on this - still not got a working solution & my departure date looms ever closer!)_ ..... man this tomtom home app is getting on my tits.

So from what I can gather I need to have tomtom installed/updated on my tomtom 520#s SDHC card in order to patch it (previously I simply copied the required files over manually from a tomtom backup on my PC.)

But now I'm trying to actually select my 520's SDHC card as the TomTom 'device'...(& the SDHC card does show in tomtom home as the selected device) but next, when I select 'update' in tomtom home....in the list of activities it goes through, it doesn't mention the SD card but instead 'Install to internal memory'....what's a bloke supposed to do to get the darned Tomtom home app to install on the *^%$'ing SDHC card?!!!

1. You can patch a map, speedcams etc anywhere (internal memory, SD/SDHC card [in or out of the device], desktop), the location doesn't matter.
2. If you have a card in the slot & start TT Home, you should see a window titled "Select your navigation device" with Internal Memory & Memory Card as the options. If you select Memory card, TT Home will update everything on the card that it has an update for. If it has updates for items not on the card, it will update these items on the Internal Memory.

Many thanks for that, I feel close but yet so far!

After having many *many* abortive attempts to download the maps from the factory, I've now successfully downloaded 'Europe' 920.5241' & copied it to my TomTom SDHC card, when I run fastactivate & click on option "2. patch maps blah blah", I see this onscreen...

1. Open the Europe 920.5241 folder & tell me the first thing that you see!!

2. I know you have posted your device config several times, but let's do it again. Run TomTom Current Configuration {13.11.2011} & post the results.

OK, this takes care of my post 22 Item 2. Please answer post 22 Item 1.

Did you notice, that in your post 21 from BIF File......J:\TTGO.BIF to the end of the post, Europe 920.5241 isn't listed anywhere??

Also in your post 23, the Europe 920.5241 map should be listed between ApplicationVersion=1234792.1 & TTGO.BAK:

ApplicationVersion=1234792.1
CurrentMap=Europe
CurrentMapVersion=920.5241
TTGO.BAK:

This discrepancy is the reason for my question in post 22 Item 1.

Might be pointless, but did you try a nice and clean install of all?
Getting a new map going is pretty simple and straight forward, all you need is a patched Navcore and a DCT file created inside the map folder by FastActivate.
If the map files are located in a folder in the root of the device and not within a sub folder all should work just fine.
Even with a faulty DCT file the map will be visible in the map selection (switch map).
The only reasons I know for not showing up are
a) the map is incomplete (or has not been unpacked properly)
b) the map files are located in a sub folder

Guys, I'm sorry if I'm confusing you all...clearly I'm a noob & I've tried all sorts of permutations so have perhaps I'm clouding the issue a little!

Maybe my approach is wrong, but when I saw my new downloaded (Europe) map folder had a file name structure very similar to the basic structure of my TomTom SD card (ie with its supplied UKI map), I just dropped the contents of the downloaded map folder onto the root of my SD card...are you saying my downloaded 'Europe' map should go in a sub folder called maps on my SD card? (or should I be dropping the actual whole downloaded folder onto the root of my SDHC card (the folder is called Europe_920_5241 in my download directory)

tendriver wrote:1. Open the Europe 920.5241 folder & tell me the first thing that you see!!

DO you mean the dowloaded folder on my PC? (because like I say, I simply dropped the contents of that folder onto the root of my SDHC card!

Here's the content of the 920.5241 as showing on my PC....

& here's what my SDHC card has on it...

Aaarrrgghhh (like seriously Aaarrrgghhh!!!!)

Ok, after making that last post, I went back to basics...

1. Wiped the SD card.
2. Updated my 520 via TomTom.
3. Copied everything in internal memory over to the SD card (so now I have a clean install on the SDHC card)
4. Copied my new Europe (920.5241) map folder over to the root of my SDHC card (so now I have a folder called Europe_920_5241 on the root of my SDHC card)
5. Ran fastactivate.

i got my hopes up when I saw this for 'my device info (fastactivate option 7) .....

ttgo.bif:
DeviceName=TomTom GO 520
DeviceVersionHW=GO 520
DeviceSerialNumber=M2xxxxxxxxxx
BootLoaderVersion=55120
ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=7480
ApplicationVersion=9084

Map(s):
J:\United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland\
J:\Europe_920_5241\

Storage:
Size 3876MB, Free 1056MB

...but when I started my 520 & go to 'switch maps', I see two 'United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland' maps listed! (& postcode 'navigate to' doens't seem to work?!!!)

Oh dear [shakes his head embarrassed at how long this is taking for the penny to drop & heads off to bed for a restless night!]

Remove EVERYTHING from the SDHC card except the Europe_920_5241 map folder. Open the folder & confirm that there is a Europe-849.meta.dct file in it. If so, then that takes care of the SDHC card.

Now for the internal. It appears from line 5 of the ttgo.bif file, which you created with FastActivate option 7, that your unit now has navcore 7.480. Please confirm.

Two days left & counting until I go to France ...oh oh!! lol

Ok, as per your instructions, I've removed everything from the SDHC card except for the europe maps folder (there is a Europe-849.meta.dct file in this folder), fastactivate, ttgo.bif & ttsystem (these files were left on the SDHC card, else I can't get the navcore info you need) on the SDCHC card root, running fastactivate sees this...

ttgo.bif:
DeviceName=TomTom GO 520
DeviceVersionHW=GO 520
DeviceSerialNumber=M2xxxxxxxxxx
BootLoaderVersion=55120
ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=7480
ApplicationVersion=9084
