@Chas521 I have read your post and I'm following your clear instructions.

You have told me to make a backup of the files.
As I have no Mio programs installed on this laptop I needed to hunt them down.
I have found Mio Transfer and the MioTransfer Hack. Google is your best friend.

Also wanted to explain to iano what my plan was.

Now i'm in the process of completely back upping the Mio FlashDrive... Or I'm trying to... I can backup one file at the time and not YET complete folders. I'm trying to figure this one out also... Why only file per file and not complete directories/folders.

Are there any other solutions besides MioTranfer or MioTransferHack to backup/copy/transfer/move from the Mio Device?

Thanks in advance!

you don't need the transfer hack to back up your mio internal files/folders. simply mark [do you know how?] the files/folders to be transferred and then just copy/paste them to your computer.

@Chas"

I have an old laptop running with WinXPSP3. When I hooked up the C710, WinXP went a bit bezerk.
After I had found the correct WinXP driver for the C710, it recognized the device as a PocketPC.
The only way to access it was trough the MioTransfer or the MioTransferHack and not trough the "normal" Windows Explorer.

If you have any suggestions, please feel free to share..

i don't understand beserk. if for some reason the only way to see the gps internal is through the transfer hack then unfortunately you will have to transfer them one by one. just make sure you go slowly and put the files/folders in their proper places so the back up looks exactly like the original.

i really would suggest that you use a sd card for the program and contents - easier to edit and will not affect your internal. plus if you use a card reader you can transfer the files at one time.

Well, somehow I got all the files copied and safely secured....

And I think I will go allong with your last remark, put everything on a SD card.... Probably much more easier... Need to buy a 4Gb SD card... The 2Gb I have is just to small to have all the maps and pois of Europe on it...

What I meant with beserk.
beserk (comparative more beserk, superlative most beserk) Injuriously, maniacally, or furiously violent or out of control. ([Please Register or Login to download file] ).

That I even had to unplug the device from USB and first find the device driver before I could continue.

Thanks for all the good advice...I will keep you posted....

Thanks again...

The old Mio C710 Device is running internally MioMap 3.2 from March 14 2007, the maps are from 2006.01.
For me i would be fun if I could upgrade this to the latest MioMap ever released? Maybe MioMap 3.3 (3.4) and the latest ever released maps (2008/2009)?

I can remember that when I wanted to update this in 2008 or 2009 something went wrong on the servers of Mio. Aftewards I had to reinstall the device from DVD and I never tried it again.

From the SD I will run iGO8 and the latest updates.

in post 5, i gave you the upgrade unlock [3.3] for mio devices. did you look at the link?

The latest update regarding the my experiences.

At this moment the C710 is running fine from SD. Used the Unlock, "installed" iGO8, left out TomTom. Copied almost all the MAPS for Europe. Left out Russia. I'm happy and content.

The only question stay in my post #23...

Thanks

Yes I have looked it and downloaded, but not used it.. I was sidetracked with the backupping of the device and installing everything on SD....

But you are right, I will just run iGO from SD... It is also easier to maintain...

Thanks!
