Adding POIs to Becker Map Pilot without using Becker Content

Has anyone found a way of adding POIs to these units if you've had an "unofficial" map update?

I have updated to the V23 maps via an SD card that remains in the Becker unit and basically has all the files on it (think I had to format the unit and cut and paste 4 files).

As I have TomToms that can't be connected to MyDriveConnect (unsupported devices that would only be loaded with older navcores and outdated maps), I can just simply transfer .ov2's to the map directory (in simple drive mode) and they work.

I have a .gpi file that I could simply transfer to the POI sub directory of the SD card but the steps say Becker Content Manager would be required to integrate the .gpi to the POIs.

I create the POI files myself from Google Maps .kml using KML2CSV and MAKEOV2.exe

The .gpi is created from the same .csv using Garmin POI Loader.
