[Solved] US & Canada Sizing Assistance TomTom v3 1 GB

Sat Dec 20, 2014 4:54 am

I have a TomTom One 3rd gen (v6 8.01 navcore) and hope to update my USA and Canada maps. I naively thought a 1GB version I found in the maps thread (USA_Canada_1GB_940_5995) would fit since my unit is 1 GB but it turns out to be just slightly (61 MB) too large. Even deleting everything off the TomTom wouldn't clear that much, unfortunately, as only 29 MB is used after I deleted the old map. Is there part of the new map I can dispense with, perhaps? Failing that, does anyone know off the top of their head how I can tell easily how large the maps are (I've been going through and clicking the download links and adding up the archive pieces by hand which is a bit laborious)? Or just a suggestion of which would suit my device's capacity?

While I am posting anyway, I should verify I am reading the compatibility chart correctly. I see that 7.9xx is compatible and the adjacent 8.06x also is so deduced that my version, 8.01 also would be. What gives me a bit of pause is that very specific 6 in the 8.06x so I wanted to make sure the reading between the lines method works across the 7 and 8 boundary. Sorry if it's a noob question; I had trouble searching the forum for it.

Thank you very much. Here is the rest of the data on my unit inc ase it's useful.

DeviceName=TomTom ONE
DeviceVersionHW=ONE (v6)
BootLoaderVersion=55001
ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=8010
ApplicationVersion=9369
CurrentMap=USA_and_Canada
CurrentMapVersion=710.1575

There is no meta availeble for the USA_Canada_1GB_940_5995 map, so if it would fit you couldn't activate it.

For that region there's only a United_States_940.5993 with meta available suiteble for a 1gb device. But that's only USA, no Canada.

Thank you. I found that one quite far down in the map thread and the post didn't mention meta for its links one way or the other. Won't assume that means it's good again!

Do you happen to know the most recent version that does have both Canada and the US that would fit? I live in VT right on the Canadian border and also would like to avoid limiting myself to one region. Thanks again.

Sorry, I should've been more specific: I'd rather have an older version than limit myself to one region of the country as I've far flung friends I visit from time to time. Just trying to get the maps on this unit (bought it recently on Ebay when my old one croaked) out of the stone age.

Went through the old maps thread post links systematically and the first compatible US & Canada map I came across that has a meta code and would fit is USA_Canada_1GB v910.4955.

I edited the thread title to make it more useful to other users who may have the same device and desired map coverage, as well as adding "solved". Please let me know if I can improve either the title or the map I settled on.

Thanks for your help.

With 1gb storage you're limmited in your choice of maps. If that 910 version works for you than it's OK, Cause I think that's the latest complete USA & Canada map for 1gb with meta. These maps + meta become harder to get because less people use these maps officially. So less change that someone is willing to share the meta. :022:

Next step for you is probebly an android version on a smartphone. :023:

At 958MB, it will be a tight fit, but nothing ventured, nothing gained. There may be some files that can be deleted to make it a bit smaller.

Are you sure that it won't?? See post 8.

Deleting poi.dat will save you 130mb. Navigate to original TomTom poi's is not possible anymore.
Put in poi.dat from map Northern_US_and_Canada will save you 70mb. Navigate to an original TomTom poi is only available in that area..

My unit has 948 MB free. Talk about close! I've never found the pois useful so that's an easy fix. Thanks for the suggestions.

... and you can always put in your own poi files.

1. All of Popeye's maps have their sizes included in their 1st line.
2. Your answer is in the yellow box at the bottom of the compatibility chart.
PS. If you are keeping your 8010 navcore, & it has an ASR folder as well as a LoquendoTTS folder, you can gain a few MBs by deleting them.
