1. You must also set a warning sound. Your unit must know the MAX speed for the road that you are traveling on.
2. If you are referring to ttgo.bak etc., you aren't supposed to have them.
I do not give help by PM. It deprives our other members of a chance to learn. Please post your issue in the appropriate forum/thread. You will get an answer.

Yes I have also set the warning sound. This function has always worked for me and the most valuable feature of the TomTon One is that it takes the data for where you are on the road and tells you if your going faster than allowed. For example, if your driving on a single carriageway (UK) it is National Speed Limit of 60MPH. When I approach a built up area (streetlights) the warning sounds and the speed on the display turns red to warn over speed. It does this the instance you pass the "30MPH" sign on the road, so the unit is actually aware of the speed limit depending on your location (which road your on and where). It would sound a warning on motorways if I exceeded 70MPH so for any given road you always knew if you were breaking the law. This function was extremely valuable as I just got a speeding ticket, I didn't have the TomTom fitted that day and made an error in judgment on an unfamiliar section of road. It's always worked for many years and also with ALL your maps, which I update once a year around this time. This feature is worth discussing at least as other users might also find it saves making mistakes and getting a ticket on unfamiliar roads.

Yes you can also set a pre-set maximum speed if you want but this is useless unless you only ever travel on that section of road. The feature is included to automatically warn the driver any time they exceed the "allowed speed" wherever they are driving so the map must provide this data.

Thanks for getting back to me would still appreciate help if anybody has any ideas. Thanks for the maps again. Best wishes, Dave.

Further to the above, I have tried upchucking all the preferences and a reset. I have then powered down and re-started. On shutdown the "Warn not to leave device in car" screen came on even though ALL boxes are unchecked in "Safety Preferences" screen. It seems that none of the safety preferences work and no matter how many times I reset / power down nothing works. Should I assume that this problem is now perhaps Navcore related? Could I have damaged something or deleted something related to this function? Please advise I would really appreciate your help as this is the most important function for me to avoid speeding tickets! Thanks again, all the best, Dave.

You did set a sound when you set the speeding warning?
On a separate note: you do have speedcam audio warnings.

Hi, Yes I definately set a sound after selecting notify when driving faster than allowed. I tried this process several times but like I said before, in preferences I unchecked all the boxes including the one that says "Warn not to leave device in car" but that warning still appears even though it is de-selected, so I can only assume that perhaps other preferences are also no responding to the settings I select (tick in the box). Yes I do get the speedcam warning. Is there a way to edit at what overspeed value an alarm is activated? I know it's not in the Navcore but wondered if you guys were able to edit TomTom software to change the value of the over-speed alarm (perhaps I'm not driving fast enough, I used to get an alarm doing 35mph in a 30mph zone).

Thanks for reading about my problems, I will wait and hope that somebody might have an idea.
Best wishes,
Dave.

You mention doing a reset, was this a soft reset or a hard one...does your device have a pin hole to reset if not hold the power button down for at least 30 seconds?
There is also the [Please Register or Login to download file] utility which is used when the device won't hold it settings...like yours. Run that 2 or 3 times.

I'm a little surprised that your navcore is still v7.903 as I would've thought that it should be v8.0xx. Have you tried updating it through TomTom Home software?

Do a full backup using Windows Explorer and then run it through TomTom Home and you should get a navcore update to v8.0xx, surely running clear flash and a possible navcore update must fix your problems.

After that you can download and install the latest v965 UK & ROI map

Hello Fredderf,
Thank you I will try running the clear flash tool as you advised. I did a reset with the reset button using a fine pointed tool. The TomTom updates never updates beyond the last Navcore version they used at close of production for my model. I did suspect that I might have damaged something when deleting old files but uncertain. I will try again and get back to you, thanks again! Best wishes, Dave.

The clear flash tool should fix the problem but you can always wipe the device and start again if you wish (just make sure you do a full backup using Windows Explorer first - making sure 'show all hidden files & folders' is selected before you do). TomTom provides instructions on how to do that [Please Register or Login to download file] but don't bother with Step 4 as I assume you'll be downloading the latest 965 UK & ROI map from here.

This may be the best resolution as the maps you've already got are now out of date and you're uncertain if you've accidentally deleted something anyway....but try the clear flash tool first and see how you get on.
