Total beginner wanting help

Hi

i have a tomtom one xl and wanting to update the maps, i recently sent off my memory card to a guy on ebay who i paid £35 to but my maps are still old, the guy has now dissapeared from Ebay and i still have my old maps can anyone please tell me a step by step guide to updating my maps .
