Hi,

All you have to do is first, download a latest version of Garmin Map that you prefer to use from within this forum (thanks to the contributors, it is such a loving community) and put the found map img on a SD card (if you want to use a SDHC card, you need to upgrade the software on your device to a newest one ... go to garmin website and do a search for your unit, it will give you a link to download it), insert it into your unit (press and hold the eject button for 1-2 second and you will see the slot for SD card). It will do it for you! Remember, always keep the SD card in the slot if you want to use the new downloaded map.

Last but not least, you MUST create a folder named "garmin" on your SD card and transfer the latest map img you just downloaded (change the name of this img to "gmapsupp.img") inside this folder in order for the unit to recognize and to use the map. The path in a simple tech term is "storage card/garmin/gmapsupp.img"

Hope this would help. "Ask and you shall receive". ;)

You are very welcome although what I shared with you did not come straight from me; I have learned it from others and now I am passing it onto you. ;)

To your question, and according to my experience, you only need to put the gmapprom.img (of course you need to change its name to gmapsupp.img) in the downloaded folder (after extracted) to the folder "garmin" on your SD card. The other files do not need to be on the SD card. Only use them to upgrade the files on the internal memory of the DNX7100 gps unit. But it involves another set of instruction of how to get it done.

Anyways, If you only need to use the newest map to navigate your ways around the country just have the map image in the folder on the SD card. It worked just fine for me.

Enjoy your new map and make sure to say thank to the contributors. Cheer! ;)

Hey fastmovin, can you clarify something? I have downloaded the full image for NA, as well as the full MSI version download, and 3d image. Did you just use the main image file to update it? I'm trying to add a new map to my dnx6960, but I'm a little unsure.

I have no experience with Kenwood devices, but in general, yes.
