How to update iGO8.0 to iGO8.3

This information could be useful for people using iGO8.0 on a device (like 2Din) and have gotten it from the internet - or elsewhere. By this method, you in fact can update iGO8.0 the easy way to iGO8.3. You NEED to change your 'old' R1/8.0 maps to the R3/8.3 maps!

Nabi and I have been PMing regarding something that should be of interest to some of you members out there. It has been tried and proved to work but we would also like for you out there who try it to post here with your results so others may benefit from your experience. If you are presently using 8.0 simply download a current 8.3 package. Also download maps for 8.3. In 8.0 delete the Igo.exe, the license folder, the data.zip, the branding zip and the save folder and replace them with the same folders/files from the 8.3 download. Don't worry about replacing the save folder because a new one will be recreated when you start the new Igo for the first time. Put the new 8.3 content into the content folder[s] after deleting the old 8.0 content. Completely shutdown your GPS, wait a few seconds and restart. BACKUP YOUR OLD FILES/FOLDERS THAT YOU ARE DELETING IN CASE THERE'S A PROBLEM!!!

iGO8 looks for a file in the following order and always takes the first one that it finds:

1. direct folder structure
2. inside SKIN.ZIP
3. inside BRANDING.ZIP
4. inside DATA.ZIP

And to even add more info, settings are in the following order:

1. SYS.TXT (overrides everything)
2. save\SYSTEM.INI
3. [DATA.ZIP]\project_config\igo8_generic.ini (or whatever project is set in SYS or EXE)
4. [DATA.ZIP]\config\devices\{my_device}.ini

Find your GPS port, speed, and protocol

Find your GPS port, speed, and protocol

GPSScan_debug.exe is a small tool from the Miopocket Tronik utilities. It does seem to run standalone(at least on a wince gps) and did find the port, baud rate, and protocol of my GPS. So if you need a "tool" to find your gps port, you might want to give GPSScan_debug.exe a try.

HTC HD devices suffer a keyboard problem.

When you want to type, instead of standard letters, you only get some symbols and non alphabet letters to choose from.

To solve this problem just add these two lines in data.zip>config>keybind.txt>[default]:

x87="NOP"
xE5="NOP"

You can do this without unpacking the data.zip file.
Use TotalCommander. You find it here.

iGO 8.3 custom boot screen

iGO 8.3 custom boot screen

Here's how I did it on iGO8.3. First make a backup from your SD card, to a folder on your computer.
Then with your graphics program, select your new page/image size the same as your GPS image size.
Mine was 800x480 pixels on an "all in one DVD GPS".
Then, import your image from your file, photo, Google image, etc. Resize manually until it fits within your page. then combine it with the background. add your text, and modify how you like.
Next, "save as' file type 'windows bmp"', file name.... "loading" and the save process will add the "bmp" to read as....loading.bmp
Then I select the image I just saved, (single click) control+c to copy the image.
and navigate to the GPS SD card in your card reader. Go to the "data.zip" (RAR) right mouse click...select open with > compressed(zipped)folders.
This will allow you access to the RAR without extracting the RAR. DO NOT EXTRACT THE RAR.
You can the proceed to the .... ui_igo8_da folder, where you will find all the different resolution folders. Pick the one you are using for your device, mine was 800x480, inside that is the "loading.bmp" image you are about to replace. scan down the list till you see it. Then ... control+v to paste, and you will be asked if you want to replace the existing file, select yes.
You can then close the window and head on over to the "branding.zip"' RAR and do the same as the above instructions.
You should now be ready to load up your card.
I have noted that sometime when making a change, it may be necessary to reselect the gps file path exe to make it work.
Assistance with this mod was supplied to me by KUKUK, BAZZLE, and HOLLOWMAN.
I am a learner, so if there is a problem with my instructions, please feel free to add corrections, modify at your own risk as I have done too. Good luck.

Easy replace the arrow with a CAR icon of your choice in iGO

Sat Nov 20, 2010 6:35 pm

> More than 250 cars to choose from
> only for screen resolution 240x320, 320x240, 480x272, 240x240
> Works only in 3D
> In 2D it's just replaces the day- and night arrow with a picture of the car.

Instructions:

1) Download file 3dAutos.zip on you computer, next unzip
2) Choose a xx.BMP file
3) Rename that xx.BMP to 3dauto.bmp
4) Copy data.zip to your iGO8 folder, replace old data.zip
5) Edit "sys.txt" file, add this lines settings
[map]
3d_scale_carmodel=1
3dcarsizemin=30
3dcarsizemax=40
3dcarsizemul=20

6) Goto Settings, then Menu settings. and click on *3D Car Icon by Ecolab*
7) Restart iGO8

* This for 240x320 screen resolution:
1) put 3Dcar.zip in folder \content\skin -> do not unzip
2) copy 3dauto.bmp in folder \ui_igo8\240_320 and in folder \ui_igo8\240_320\night
If the folders doesn't exist, create it ! Do not edit your data.zip ... the 3dauto.bmp must be added to the new folders in the igo8 root \ui_igo8\320_240 and \ui_igo8\320_240\night
* Every other resolution, copy the BMP file in the likewise named folder, thus with the correct resolution (example: \ui_igo8\240_320 => \ui_igo8\480_272)

Now you can choose any .BMP file you like and even change it when you like, by only replacing the 3dauto.bmp with a new file.
