Which tomtom is required for EU truck navcore and map?

Postby tom619 » Thu Sep 10, 2015 2:28 pm

Hello,

I have a very old tomtom XL from 2008 which has no sd card slot and not very much storage/memory.

I am wanting to put the truck navcore and maps on it but I understand the memory is insufficient.

Therefore I am willing to purchase a new tomtom but just wondered which model is required/sufficient for use with truck navcore and maps?

My budget is no more than £150 and I would prefer 5" screen.

Thanks :)

Go on ebay and get one with a SD card slot then put a 4gb card in and you're ready to go

Go720, Go730, Go530, Go520 are the one to look for.
Go930 and 920 work too, X10 models should be avoided due to being a bit tricky.
If the above is not available or a budget model is required it has to have a SD card slot and 64mb of Ram - of course still accessed through TT Home and not MyDrive.

The models you mention are fairly old aren't they?

I had seen the 510 is £129 in halfords is that a no go?

What do you mean by old?
No model priced after 2009 can be accessed, so if you want new you have to go and buy a dedicated Truck unit from TT.

Oh I see, I had wondered why units such as the ones mentioned which are from pre-2009 still go for £100 odd on ebay.

Downunder's thread, topic8690.html, sez it all!!

Oh I see.

So does that rule out the following model as I can't see it listed in the thread as being unhackable http://www.halfords.com/technology/sat-nav/car-sat-nav/tomtom-go-500-5-sat-nav-with-lifetime-traffic-maps-of-full-europe-special-edition

It does - you don't have to look for ANY new TT, only second hand is the way to go ;)

You can rule out any unit with a "roll out date" of Fall 2010 or higher.

Thanks for all the replies guys.

I have the opportunity to buy a tomtom go 950 live for £120. Shall I go for it?

Cool thanks.

I also have the chance to buy a TT Go 520 for (£45 buy it now or best offer) OR TT Go 550 for £54.99 (buy it now with best offer) Which is the better buy?

The Go 520 for (£45 buy it now or best offer). If you get this unit, you can use a mod navcore set to X50. This will give you the features of a GO 550, and you have saved £10.

Oh really so there are no hardware differences between the two?
