thanks for the links, its appreciated. its going to take approx 2 hours to download. Am I better off to wipe the tomtom or is it ok to put the new map on the root, there wont be any negative interactions with other map or meta data?

No problem

You should have a backup of the original setup...if so I'd restore that & extract the new 9.541 navcore straight over the top of it...then run FA and select option 3 to patch the new system
Now, turn it on and you should have the new navcore all working BUT with the old original map

After that it's just a question of extracting the new map to the device and activating it as per previous instructions

new navcore working perfect so far.

just to double check, I can exclude step one as that has already been done?

1. Run FastActivate on the device and select option 3 to patch the system to accept downloaded maps (wait for successful message before continuing on to step 2)
2. Now select option 10 to update FastActivate > then select option 1 to update the meta codes to the latest available > finally select option 2 to activate the map
3. Turn it on to check all is ok...Job done (afterwards you can delete your old map)

Yes, step 2 onwards

Hmmm...did FA sucessfully activate the map in step 2?

You can try and re-patch the navcore in step 1 again...it'll tell you if it's already patched

It could be complaining about your old map...try moving that to a safe place

FA isn't loading up now. A command prompt pops up then nothing happens.

It needs hard reset...do so either by finding a pin hole reset button or by holding the power button down until you see the BIOS screen, then press it again to start it up again

A hard reset after installing the new navcore and map or prior to that? My laptop started to do an update and took four hours and now it doesn't seem to like FA; won't open it nor will a new download work. Seems the security is overzealous on Windows 10. I'll have another go tomorrow if I can get FA to download/execute.

Windows Defender does not like software used for 'patching' executables and treats it as a virus by blocking access to it. Disable Defender when using FA.

The navcore & map you're using are the latest available and have been successfully tried & tested many times. You're getting strange results so by doing a reset it will clear the flash memory...you can do a reset at any time which should sort the problems out. TomTom also have a tool called Clear Flash that will do the same thing and is safe to use...it's recommended to run it 2 or 3 times to be sure:

As Macca has already said above, disable Win10 security temporarily whilst patching or updating FA

My laptop seems unusebale since the Windows 10 Update. I'm going to have to borrow one. Hopefully will get this tomtom update eventually.

Thanks for the update...if your PC is running slow, it probably needs the hard drive upgrading to a solid state drive (SSD). I've done quite a few of them recently and it's not too difficult to do nor expensive either but makes a big difference to the running of the machine.
