just looking at the TomTom memory card compatibility info. my unit is listed as 4GB capability. I have always used 8Gb Micro SD inside an adapter. Never caused any problems

That chart is a bit misleading. Any bootloader, 5.5015 (navcore 8.300) or newer, supports the larger SDHC cards. Offical navcore for your 520 is 8.351.
