Put the files in the root of your unit, not in a folder. BTW, the W means that the files are for a wide screen unit.

You don't say what Device you are using yet ?
Because splashw.bmp does not work & splash.bmp does, its a 320x240 screen, right? ( Go300, ONE, Rider)
As mentioned above, the W images are for widescreen units and are 480x272px, so simply renaming should not work..
you need to resize them then remove the W from name.
I cannot remember if you need to rotate images to make them 240x320 - maybe they fixed that or perhaps was device specific to early Go units

I had the same problem, the splashcreens were there but not showing (the splashscreen was on and off too quickly that you wouldnt notice it, solved it by adding startup sounds and shutdown sound and even though when you have x30 emulation you would have no startup/shutdown sounds coming through, the fact that the tomtom tries to play them slows it down for you to actually see the splashscreens go on for a few seconds.

Hope it makes sense...
tomtomhome might not let you add sounds because of the x30 emulation so the best way is to remove the emulation , add the sounds, then return to the x30 emulation
