TomTom refused to activate my Start 25

Mon Sep 16, 2013 3:10 pm

Hi all

I just bought Start 25 from eBay. When I connected it to my laptop and tried to update via myTomTom, it failed.

I called customer services here in the UK who refused to activate it for me as eBay is not one of ther retailers!

My question is; Is there a way that I can update my TomTom and/or my Maps away from the official way?
If not, I can still return the TomTom to the seller this week, so which (new version) TomTom shall I buy where I can update the maps easily using programs as fastactivate or others??

Thank you

If you don't want to pay for map updates or don't want to buy a new TT with lifetime map updates:
GO 520, 530, 720, 730, in case you need the live services a GO 740 or 740

If I may add a bit to Downloader's reply,
1. No. Important note for new Tomtom models like VIA, Start20/25, Go1xxx - please read!
2. Put it in the mail today!!
3. There aren't ANY new models released from Sept. 2011 to now, that you can update the maps easily using programs as fastactivate or others. They all use MyTomTom.com. Only older devices that use TT Home can be updated with Navitotal.

Subscription services are sent directly to the device, rather than updating with TT Home.

On the plus side, for anyone who wants it, units like start 25 are now available for less than £100 with lifetime maps.
