TOMTOM One 3rd - newbie frustrated need help!

Postby excessuk » Sat Nov 27, 2010 4:32 pm

Hi,

I've got a tomtom one 3rd edition. It came with a UK and Ireland. I've downloaded an updated one from this site and it worked really great after using FastActivate. Then I downloaded a South Africa map (as I'm flying to SA next week) and also used Fast Activate to activate the map (it shows as activated in my TomTom Home PC app). However when operating the tomtom device I can't seem to switch to South Africa? I can only see two options: Ireland, and UK, but can't see South Africa there.

I've read lots of different threads, updated my navcore to 8.412 and patched it using Fast Activate but still can't see South Africa on my device when switching countries.

I've tried two maps actually with same result:

- Southern_Africa_855.2937
- South_Africa_Swaziland_and_Lesotho_855_2884

When copying the map folders to my tomtom device I renamed them accordingly (removed the version number at the end) and I can effectively see them listed in my tomtom pc app, but not in my device.

What am I doing wrong?

Any pointers as to how to get this working will be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks in advance.

860 is the currrent version for those 2 maps.

It makes no difference what you name the map folders. Main Menu, Change preferences, Switch maps, Switch map gets the map info from the map's .pna file.

Yes I'm sure in the root of my TomTom it's just the folder and inside all the map files. In fact if I go into the tomtom home app and click Add Maps I can see the South Africa (or Southern Africa) maps, and they say they're in the device (before using FastActivate they showed as needing activation).

Then I go into main menu, change preferences, switch maps and can only switch between ireland and united kingdom. I'm sure I'm being silly and I'm missing something but I can't see what that is.

Could the device be locked to just uk and ireland somehow?? Is this something that can be changed? Any UK owners of tomtoms who may have experienced a similar problem?

Thanks!!

I'm being an idiot, thanks for your help. I've installed the navcore but then accepted an "update" on the tomtom home pc which downgraded me to navcore 7 - a massive DOH!!!! :hunter:

I'm re-installing everything from scratch now hoping that this time will work.

Thanks again!
