TomTom One XL 32mb & Navcore 9 - a good combination?

Sat Feb 26, 2011 5:41 pm

Hi,

I've been thinking about upgrading the Navcore on my One XL 32mb from 8.414 to Navcore 9.

I have two questions :-

(1) Is it really worth doing?
(2) Is there a downside? I've heard that Navcore 9 is less RAM friendly.

My TomTom is a bog standard device. Nevertheless, it get's me from A to B successfully and I've got TTS working. I'm not interested in traffic updates (etc).

Has anyone had any experience of using Navcore 9 & TTS on a One XL 32mb device?
Good, bad, ugly? Any particular Navcore 9 to go for or avoid?

Thanks,
Steve.

P.S. Great website & discussion forum.

TomTom Automatic Navcore Installation Read the instructions carefully!!!

You have working VocalizerTTS or LoquendoTTS?

Hi Tendriver.

Thanks for the reply and link.
I've got Loquendo TTS currently.

I'll probably update my device and see how it performs compared to Navcore 8.
Is it worth it though? I'd like to keep Loquendo.

Thanks,
Steve.

You may be the only member to have Loquendo on a 32MB device. NC 9's are very Ram friendly. Make a backup of your current set up. If you don't like 9, you can go back.

Hi Tendriver,

Whilst replying to your post, I got an AVG Virus warning :-
Threat detected "Exploit Rogue Scanner (type 1862)".

I've been using Loquendo for over a year now. Apart from a slight delay in reading out the road names, it's fine.
I'll update my device and share my experiences on the forum.

Steve.

More details please.

Apologies, I didn't write down the rest of the info. The filename mostly contained junk letters. I recall seeing the word "GUARD" in the filename.

Not for the first time, I've seen a "message from webpage" window appear whilst using this site.
It says "Windows security has found critical resource activity on your system and will perform fast scan of system files".
I haven't clicked on "OK" just in case it's a virus.
As before, I've run AVG and Malwarebytes. All seems to be OK.

I've always had problems when logging into this site.
If I try to enter my username too early, I inadvertently jump to an advertising page.
If I try to enter my password too early, I can actually see what I'm typing rather than dots.
I find that I have to wait about 30 secs before I can enter my username & password without any problems.
May be my impatience but when I'm prompted to enter my details then that's exactly what I do.

Steve.

Do us both a favor. Please edit your post 5 into this one and post it here: This forum has ads that attempt to install malware.

Hi,

I downloaded SE_Navcore.9.205.547817_32mb_devices.rar (Widescreen ONLY) from the link above and ran the .exe file.
I didn't activate the map (I created the DCT file with Navcore 8).

The device booted up and the "Legal Notice" screen appeared
I got the "writing instructions" message followed by the "I agree" prompt.
After selecting "I agree", the device froze for a few seconds and then re-booted and went back to the "Legal Notice" screen.
I went round this loop a few times (manually re-setting the device). On some occasions, I heard the "turn around now" voice message and the name of my street (Loquendo).

Not enough RAM perhaps?
Or could there be another reason?

Thanks,
Steve.

I think its totally worth it. I got latest se navcore, 865 usa maps, samanta TTS, all working far better than stock( i never updated my gps till now).
Made my 2-3 yr old one xl work like champ and really worth 200$ i had spent on it at that time.
To your problem, i had faced similar problem so i made back up of allllllll original files, and clean wiped whole 1 gb( formatted), and then ran auto install for navcore and maps i downloaded from Navitotal links, copied over samantha, ran autoactivate.exe and BOOM everything started working, Had to deselect-select MAP and disable read international language option to get TTS read streat names properly. give it a try.

Hi,

I got mixed results in followng the instructions from the previous post.
Navcore 9 and the map are working fine.
Loquendo is playing up. Hmmm. Initially, it said "Turn around when possible. Language N" and the street name. Now it won't say a thing.
Even the non-computer voices don't work (I copied the "Voices" folder from my backup).

Here's what I did :

1. Deleted every folder/file on the device except the map folder and ttgo.bif.
2. Copied my working Loquendo (v6.9) folder to the device (overwriting LoqAudioboard.so).
3. Activated my map (EasyActivator).
4. Disconnected the device from the PC and switched on.
5. Selected a map, as advised in the previous post. I couldn't see how to do the "disable international language option"
I can see an option to "Read alough foreign street names". De-selected.
6. Selected a voice (Loquendo Kate v6.9) .

Is there anything that I've missed or could try?

Thanks,
Steve.

Did you try de-selecting and then reselcting map?

Sun Mar 06, 2011 7:30 pm

Hi Nakamoniel,

I've never seen a de-selection option.
I went into "Switch Maps" and selected the only map there.
Is that what you meant?

Thanks,
Steve.

In steps 1-6 there is no mention of a navcore being loaded.

Loquendo (v6.9) folder Typo error?

Sun Mar 06, 2011 10:18 pm

Oops...I ran the 9.205 32 bit .exe file in between 1 & 2.
My LoquendoTTS/EnglishGb folder contains a folder called "Kate" and a number of files containing "6.9".
