Thanks for understanding Fredderf.
The NC is 9.510.1234792.1 OS 842337 (2039, 4-4-2013)
When I purchased it was fitted with the map Europe_Central v965.7250
I've put this map back again and the device is working again. In the mean time I've downloaded a newer Fastactive.exe that works fine.
I'll download the suggested maps and other stuff and follow your instructions, so I'll keep you updated.

Thnx again mate.

You're welcome, glad it went well.

FYI: When you buy a Micro SD card, make sure it is a good quality Class 10 card (EG: Sandisk) of at least 8GB so you have a bit of room to play with. Class 10 cards are the fast ones and will run just as fast as the internal memory does. If you try and save money by buying a cheaper Class 4 card, your Go 740 will run slowly which is no good when your waiting for driving instructions on a road.

Hi Fredderf,

I bought a SandiDisk 16 GB Micro SD card class 10 today. I copied the full Europe map to the card and tried to activate it but Fastactive cannot read the card, so what do I do?

Ok...good choice, there are a couple of ways but this is the preferred option:

1. Make sure the card is formatted to FAT32 which it should be already
2. In Windows Explorer>Tools>Folder Options>View....make sure 'Show hidden files & folders' is ticked
3. Copy ALL of the contents of your Go 740 from the internal drive onto the new card (apart from the old map obviously)
4. The device will default to the new card on boot up and run from there (note that it will still see the old map that resides on the internal drive)
5. Follow my exact instructions on post #15 to install Europe 985.8155 map

Done.

Btw, don't forget to install the Netherlands & UK post code files....and SpeedCams too

Hi Fredderf,

I've used your instructions and everything works fine now. Is there also a way to insert the traffic information into the device?

Grtz.

There are only two ways to achieve this:

1. Buy a yearly subscription to [Please Register or Login to download file]
2. Buy an RDS-TMC antenna (assuming that it is available in your area). The best one being:

The latest available version, as faster than the jack version but with no more cables in your car ! Unfortunately only working with latest GO x40 and x50 versions. From my knowledge, there is only one available version at this time :
- 9UCB.001.00 which is the Europe-Australia version working on FM band.

Key Positive :
Simple to install
Simple to use
Short cable for antenna
Very good sensitivity
Operating even with no power supply
Fast synchronization (similar to V3)
No fees to pay
Ipod connection and audio output integrated

Key negative :
Price
No North American version available (tested : not working in North America)

Thnx for the info, but not really necessary for me since I don't use the TT very often.

Have you checked to see if that map already has a meta code available here before downloading?

Personally I'd go for the complete Europe 985.8155 map here...it'll be much faster to download and there IS already a meta code released for this map....you will need a card though as it's nearly 3GB in size.

When I look at the Compatibility Chart, I also see 985.8156 +8157 +8197 and I wonder what the other choices are good for.

They are for different regions or car sat nav's

Fully featured European maps are numbered: 985.8155
Fully featured USA maps are numbered: 985.8156
Fully featured Oceania maps are numbered: 985.8157
etc etc

So if I understand correctly, the first column on the left is what I have to use in the future.

You mean the compatibility chart?

Not necessarily, it depends on what TomTom's numbering scheme will be next time as to how the chart is compiled...

However, we're not going anywhere so you can always come back and ask us if you need to.

Re: TomTom Go 740

Postby rayghost » Sat Apr 08, 2017 5:49 pm

Hi Fredderf,

Today while using the Go 740 I found out that it didn't show the safety cams on the roads. So when I came home I tried to connect it to TomTom My Drive Connect, but whatever I did it wouldn't connect to the software. What can be wrong?

Hi Ray,

1. Only the newer devices like your Start 25 uses the MyDrive Connect software. Your Go 740 uses the [Please Register or Login to download file] software.
2. We covered installing the SpeedCams last time but you can download the latest SpeedCam files from here.
3. Extract the relevant files from within the archive into your map folder on the device (note that there are 2 x files for each country).
3. Run FastActivate from your device and select options 9 to update FA, then 2 to patch the new SpeedCams (note that FA will indicate if they've been patched successfully).
4. Done.
