TomTom XL - Australia map assistance please

Postby papinu » Sun Oct 03, 2010 1:57 am

Hi, I have a TomTom XL that was purchased in UK. I've downloaded 8.45.2661 Hetero (whatever hetero means.. there was a 'gay' version too). I've copied it to the TomTom via my computer and it's not working. I know there's extra steps I need to take but I don't know what they are and all the searching in the world has found nothing. Sorry, I'm a complete gumby at hacking TomToms but am computer savvy so with some guidance I think I can sort this out.

Can somebody spell out exactly what I need to do? Please let me know if there's any other info you need me to supply.

I've looked and my navcore version is 8083. I checked this by reading the ttgo.big file.

many thanks! :) :)

I'm not familiar with the term Hetero. Where did you find this map? It won't work, because your navcore is not compatible. 845.2661 requires navcore 8.20X or newer.
BTW, 845.2661 is 2 issues out of date. 855.2884 is current.

I got the map off a private download site. So how do I upgrade my navcore? Can you give me a to-do list so I can start to get this thing working with Australia maps ? And where can I get the latest map if this one is out of date that I've already downloaded?

cheers

Ok I've managed to update the navcore. It's now at 8203.
I have copied the map across to the TomTom unit.
I've downloaded and run EasyuseTools but am getting error.
I've put all the right device ids and meta details in the files that it said.. but when I try to swap maps within the TomTom unit it says can't use that map. What else do I need to do? I think it's to do with the ttsystem file... but where do I get a patched version of this as the Easyusetools patches don't appear to work at all. Help please :) :)

OK ! I found yDGpatch tool... which allowed me to patch ttsystem file... I can now select the map on the unit.. but now it's constantly searching for GPS signal....
This is the last speed hump.......... any help would be greatly appreciated :) ;)

Connect your device to your puter. Run TT Home "Update my device" & see if you get a "Quickgpsfix" update.

Well I did that last night and it failed to find any updates. But I've done it this afternoon and there was the quickgpsfix update. I installed it but it's still flashing "waiting for a valid GPS signal...."

Bummer! I thought I had it there for a second. Do you have any other suggestions?

cheers :)

The first fix after a new install can take a few minutes, so please make sure you are outside and have a clear view to the sky.

Yeah I did that. I left it outside for 20 mins and still no luck. Is there a cache in the file system that I can delete to force a reset somehow?
Feeling a bit deflated after spending so much time and researching the net for so long to get where I've gotten to.... then "no signal".. hopefully I can get it working!!!! :)

You can try a hard reset (hold reset for 30sec.) followed by the TT clear flash tool if that is no good than I would like to know if the device was working before and with what Navcore/map version.

Ok did all that and unfortunately still no go.

The original navcore version was 8083. I upgrade to 8203 so that it would work with the map I downloaded. Going by the post by the helpful guy above, I needed ot upgrade my navcore to allow the map to work, even though the map I have is out of date... "845.2661 requires navcore 8.20X or newer. BTW, 845.2661 is 2 issues out of date. 855.2884 is current" I'd give the latest version a go, but I can't find where to download it from.

The unit was purchased in UK and has UK maps on it too. Should I delete the UK maps? I'd left them on there up until now because it wasn't recognising the Oz map until recently.
The UK map that is on there (and worked perfectly) is version 835.2420 and called "United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland".

thanks mate

UPDATE: Just deleted the UK maps (as I had no reason to leave on there) and still no change......

You can still use a map without the extra features of ALG and IQ routes.
All maps suitable for PDA or Navcore 7.9X will work with you original Navcore version - if you patch the Navcore and activate the map.
You need a patched ttsystem (or PNDNavigator if present) and and valid .meta.dct code in the map folder (use a keygen to activate the map).

"the helpful guy above" sez, "You might look here: All New Maps 855.XXXX" for the current maps.

You said that 855.2884 is the latest.. but there appears to be a newer on there. Is there any reason why I shouldn't get the newer one and not the one you said ?

Why would I give you incorrect information???? There is not a newer map. The first 3 digits of a map, ie 855, denotes the edition. The last 4 digits, ie 2884, denotes a version of that edition. ALL maps of an edition are released by TT at the same time.

If you look at the chart in post 1 of this thread: All New Maps 855.XXXX , you will see all of the versions of the 855 maps. Notice that of the 3 Australian maps available, only 855.2884 is full featured.
