You can upgrade your bootloader to 5.5229 or 5.5242 to be able see SDHC cards.

Bootloader version 5.015 or higher is required to use SDHC cards.

The easiest way for you to do this is to copy/paste/overwrite the "system" file (extracted from the attached 5.5120 system file.rar) or from any of these downloaded dumps to your current standard SD card or internal memory and boot up once with that new system file THEN it will read your new SDHC card.

-1- extract the content system to your original card overwriting original system
-2- with a fully charged battery put card in device and boot , you see a screen , telling you to wait
-2 now you can use SDHC cards

the bootloader is 4.86. I do not have a lead to connect to the computer, I used the press and hold start.

OK. You MUST upgrade the bootloader before you can use a SDHC card. Load a 2GB card with navcore 8.398, any map small enuf to fit the card & the 710's ttgo.bif file. Patch the map. Put the card in the 710 & boot it. That will up the bootloader to 5.5120. Now the device will see your 8GB card.

Hi there, I did that I got as far as putting the map and navcore onto a 2 gig card and all seem to go well, I patched the map and put it back into the 710, switched it on and no display, I connected to the charger and even tried another charger and still no display, there is a green light showing, so there is power getting to the unit. is this 710 now bin material?

No display as in "black screen"? Where did you get a copy of the 710's ttgo.bif file, which is required to patch the map?

How about you start reading the instructions provided in the map thread and our tutorials?
We are nearing page 3 for a problem that could have been solved by you days ago ;)
Why do you think people bother to write all these nice instructions? Just so that noone reads them?

I am learning as we speak, Trust me I do go thru the tutorials, as I said I am very new to this, and I understand you guys are excellent at what you do, I do appreciate all the hard work you do to help ppl like me, and more advanced to this than myself. please please be easy on me lol I am as you would say a tomtom dummie lol:chok_mini:

Don't get me wrong, but from reading this thread I only see that you ask for every single step and still get it wrong when you get instructions ;)
Not knowing is no excuse as all info is freely available in the map thread, the NC threads and our tutorials.
For total noobs we offer fullbackups for several Navcores, so even if you have to start from total scratch you can use a fullbackup and if your device is not a 64mb GO model (or the backup makes problems) you can overwrite it with the corresponding files for your device type. It is all nicely explained ;)
So if worse comes to worse, apart from the time to download the files any device should be up and running within 30 minutes if done correctly.
There is a difference between learning and understanding, and learning by doing is quite a good way if you have a TT.
I admit the X10 series can be tricky sometimes, but guess what, even for those devices there are suitable Navcores available that are tested to work fine. But since the 9.430 in general and my versions of the 9.485 can be used on almost any device I can't quite understand your problems ;)
