TomTom GO 300 updating...

Thu Sep 30, 2010 9:04 pm

Hi,

I hope you can help me. I have NEVER updated my ancient TomTom Go 300. So i want to get it functioning properly with the latest maps.

Ive had a look at the FAQ's and tutorials but im still a bit lost. Could someone tell me where to start??

Ive bought a 2GB card to replace my original 128MB card that came with my tomtom.

So im guessing firstly I should backup my device first.

What should i do next?

Thanks.

What map is on the 300 now? What map would you like to install?

Also should I transfer everything from my 128mb card to my 2GB card?

No. Read post 2.

For an updated navcore go here: TomTom Automatic Navcore Installation

Select either 8.410 or 8.412. Read the instructions carefully.

Your answer tells me nothing. Reread my questions, please.

According to my tomtom 'Show version' option, the map i have is: 'Great_Britain-Map' v562.0

So i need to update the navcore first? Should i stick the new card in the device?

ps: I really am that clueless

Yes, put the card in your device. Did you read the instructions here: TomTom Automatic Navcore Installation

Ok so ive done the Navcore Instillation.

In the navcore instillation, i got to the 'Activate map' part of the instructions as i havent got a map yet on my new 2GB card.

So i guess i need a map now? Which one should i choose?

Ive just had a look at the maps with Navcore 8.410, i would like map:

Alps and major roads of WE 855.2884

Ok, so what do i do next?

Thanks.

Ok, so i felt brave and i gave it a go....

I d/led the Alps and major roads of WE 855.2884. It consisted of 2 files 2575584N.part1 and 2575584N.part2

I extracted part 2 and i didnt have to extract part one. I extracted from my computers desktop to my TT.

After extracting i double clicked on the 'AutoActivate' that was already on the device from the Navcore. And i thought i was done.

I then disconnected the TT from my computer and turned it on......

The TT screen showed a message saying it didnt recognise the 'Alps_plus_major_roads_of_WE_855_2884' map. I thought this was because the neccesary maps were in the 'Alps_plus_major_roads_of_WE_855_2884' folder so i took all the files out from that folder and moved them with the main files. I disconnected my TT from the computer and turned it on and it now says..... No Maps.

What have i done wrong?

You were right. The map files must be in their own folder.

Highlight both files 2575584N.part1 and 2575584N.part2 and extract to a folder on your device called Alps_plus_major_roads_of_WE_855_2884 then run AutoActivate, wait till it is finsihd then confirm you have the .dct file in your map folder if so you have done it correctly and it should work ;)
