tom tom xl old widescreen model with SD card slot , is it possible to put maps on for use with a caravan that will restrict journeys down narrow roads?

You will need to use a Truck navcore & Truck map.

Or for areas outside the EU you can try the 9.004 NC, which also offers vehicle profiles, but uses normal maps.
Not as good as a dedicated Truck system, but good enough for me when towing the boat.

do truck maps have an option for car use when not towing a caravan, if so which would go with this device

All Navcores with vehicle options include car profiles, however for the Truck NC it sometimes can be tricky to reactivate them once truck was selected.
For an old XL I recommend to use one of my NC versions with Memory Boost and Hard wired Sound.
They offer enough free Ram to use LoquendoTTS (if necessary) and fix the issue with silent computer voices on XL models.

The options are navcore functions, not truck map functions.

ok so which NC navcore and which uk map would i need and is the process just the same as normal navcores/maps?

can some one point me in the right direction for which navcor/mape never done truck ones . down unders ones with memory boost sound the ticket just dont know which one

There is only one current NC and one current map.
9.700 and 905 truck map.
