Star Wars Voice Question

Postby msheen » Sun Sep 26, 2010 5:43 pm

Hi!

First post so please bear with me if I'm about to ask something really stupid ...

If the C3-P0 and Han Solo have the same numbered file e.g. 89, is there anyway to have them both on my tomtom at the same time ?

I've tried rejigging meta.txt and the vif file to be number 99 and no joy

Thanks in advance

Do not "rejig", just patch them.

Here is how to rename voice files to use more than 1 file of the same name , Thanks to terrytpot for the information

Renaming voice files:

There are 3 files for each voice: dataXX.bmp, dataXX.chk and dataXX.vif (+ 1 more if it's a premium for money voice dataXX.dct ) You can play around by changing the XX number to what ever is not used yet. please note only 2 of them are required (unless its premium) as the .bmp file only add's a picture to the voice if you want one. If it's a premium voice the dataXX.dct file can only be made AFTER you've made your desired changes to the voice number for which you will also have to alter the meta text file your tool (that you use to make the dct) uses to reflect your new voice numbering convention.

IMPORTANT PART:
You have to edit the .vif file with a notepad. Inside it you will find a few lines there.

Line1 is just for you to know what it is and may not affect anything but I'm not sure so it's best not to touch this line...(in newer navcores it can be left blank)
Line2 is the name of dataXX.chk this file describes. This number MUST be the same for all the files of the voice.
Line3 content will be shown in your tomtom as the name of this voice. Input "blabla (UK Yards)" and this is what you will see in your tomtom's voice menu.

There then should be 4 more lines further describing the voice which you can add yourself if they're missing

Line4 describes gender/age of the voice. This must be 0 for young voice, 1 for adult female, 2 for adult male.
Line5 describes the language of the voice. it is 0 for English, 2 for US English, the rest of the codes can be found below.
Line6 describes the flag that will be added to the voice. for UK it is 110,for US flag it's 114.
Line7 is basically a version edition for this particular voice which starts at 1 and increases with any new altered editions of the same voice file.

Here is how the .vif content of voice data11.chk should look. Lets say the voice is Jean Doe and he is a French speaking Canadian adult male. After the "--" I will
explain the line's function.

sc english Jean Doe -------- Just put what ever or DO NOT TOUCH if it is already there
data11.chk ------------------- Do not forget to change "11" to match your data files number for this voice
Jean Doe (meters) --------- Put there what you want your tomtom to show for this voice. Basically it's the name of the voice that will come up in your tomtom
2 ------------------------------Number 2 lets your tomtom understand that it's a male adult voice
101 ---------------------------This is the language code. Your tomtom will list this voice and label accordingly to the code 101 which is for "French (Canada)".
211 ---------------------------This is the flag code. Your tomtom will list this voice and label accordingly to the code 211 which is for the Canadian flag.
1 -------------------------------This line just shows which version of the voice it is that you have, if there is none, then just put 1.

djc151084, thanks for the post,

but It doesn't seem to work.

Renumbered C3PO to be 99, changed line 2 to reflect the new number, used tomtom keygen to create a new DCT file

Still no joy

it's only showing Han Solo - is there something else I need to change ?

Thank You for your response djc151084

sorry i do not mean to hi-jack your post msheen - both have the same issue

This is for an iPhone TomTom (model #AAHBQB2XJE) independently they work on the device as data89

i did exactly what you posted and could not get it to work after I changed all the dataXX and edited the .vif & meta files to match all before creating the .dct file. all four files are placed in the "voices" folder.

what i did notice is that both the Hans Solo and C3PO have the exact same Meta.txt info, (other than the names). the meta files are viewable in your site. this may be part of the problem. every other voice file has a different Meta.txt

I have changed the C3PO to data88 with the above steps, taken the working Hans Solo data89 off for now to ensure no conflict - C3PO does not work when you change the files then generate dct file.

I could do this with other free voices w/ no problem and this a baffling me

thanks again
